The deciding reason Barrett wasn’t allowed to be Number One was she was having an affair with Roddenberry, and he was told he couldn’t have his mistress be a series star.

Of course, some of these TV stories vary widely and you don't really know what version to believe. The story I read about Nichelle Nichols was that producers had been hiding much of the fan mail that she had been receiving because they didn't want her to know how popular she was. She found out about it and that was triggered her resignation. Then, Dr. King encouraged her to stay.

I think we all knew before this about Martin Luther King, Jr…but with Lucy, she always understood risk. Way back when "I Love Lucy" was being prepared, she wanted Desi to play her husband. Well, he was her husband! All the execs said no way. She held firm. And of course, Desi got into the show but also turned out to be quite a businessman as well as a comic actor and bandleader and…Lucy held firm. She also made it onto the set early on from time to time. Just thinking about the risk here and all the guys advising her DON'T DO IT – Lucy did it. And that's no joke!

Everybody talks about what a Monumental moment the interracial kiss was between William Shatner and Nichelle Nichols and while I do admit it was Monumental they seem to forget that the next scene is a part where he begins to beat her with a whip

The color correction error was actually with Majel Barrett. She was testing green makeup for the Orion slave girl for the first pilot. They sent the film off to the lab. They corrected it. This went on for a few days as they kept adding more green to the makeup. Eventually everything got figured out.

First! Due to the fact of how bad Star fleet Academy was, I decided to start watching the original series next GEN and Deep Space 9. Phenomenal stories, phenomenal characters phenomenal Legacy. I feel great now after washing my brain with these shows after the crap of Starfleet Academy.
