I used to hit the beach at 7am for walk / run in Santa Monica. And for 4 sundays in a row I saw Rodger just walking on the beach path alone, in his traditional white shirt – in his own world just taking a morning stroll. No head phones. Just taking in the quiet sound of the beach. I remember thinking wow, that’s arguably one of the greatest cinematographers of all time. He’s human just like the rest of us but it was cool to see him just doing his thing so early in the morning.

Makes one want to think: What have I done with my life??, but that's okay. Where there's excellence, by definition, there must be mediocrity or worse.

Somebody needs to make a movie made of all the shots to which this gentleman contributed but never made it in the final versions. Like a scrap book of stunning shots.

I am not easily fascinated (as in mesmerised), but there was a shot in the beginning of Blade Runner 2049 that made me literally forget myself.
    Thank you.

Watching this made me think how great it would be if there was a "sequel" to Visions of Light, with the new generation of DPs. I'd go as far as saying a longer version of the film could be reedited to include the 8 or 10 great DPs active now that were not in the original version. Considering the fact the first ¼ of the film was introducing the audience to the invention of filmmaking, adding up 8 or 10 new people would increase its time by maybe 90 to 120 minutes, making it essentially into a 3½ hour movie. A fascinating 3½ hour movie that would be the ultimate film photography masterclass for anyone.
