Andy from the FensePost Indie Music & Vinyl Blog looks at the 7-inch single for Serpents b/w Mike McDermott by Sharon Van Etten on Jagjaguwar Records. Released in 2011, Serpents went on to find a home on Van Etten’s third proper LP — and her first on Jagjaguwar — Tramp.
In the video, I note that the song SOUNDS like an alternate take, though the differences (if they truly exist) are subtle. Serpents features Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak, Flock of Dimes) on backup vocals. Mike McDermott features Sufjan Stevens with a prominent Wurlitzer solo.
