Rory Scovel on ADHD, Overthinking Depression, & Grief | FULL EPISODE
Rory Scovel joins Neal Brennan to talk about being born into grief—his mother died on his first birthday—and how losing his dad in 2020 reshaped his standup, his parenting, and the way he thinks about aging and death. Plus: learning to read at 44, improvising his entire show every night, asking AI about death, Leonardo DiCaprio playing a father, ADHD, marriage, and more.

Need someone to color match the cameras Neil. Your shot in particular is off quite a bit color-wise.

80% Diet. Yes. Vegetarians and vegans are at reduced risk of certain health conditions, including ischemic heart disease, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, certain types of cancer, and obesity. Low intake of saturated fat and high intakes of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, soy products, nuts, and seeds (all rich in fiber and phytochemicals) are characteristics of vegetarian and vegan diets that produce lower total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and better serum glucose control. These factors contribute to the reduction of chronic disease.

Just came here to say I listened and enjoyed all the parts where Rory wasn’t banging the desk so hard it made me think my car was breaking down.

Speaking of Death, In other news, 5,000 terrified, screaming non-human sentient animals were horrifically slaughtered this Second. And 5,000 more this Second. Go Vegan.

Saw Rory in a small venue last year when he was working out new material. The laughter in the crowd blew the windows out!
He is a unique force of nature who can riff on anything he sees or thinks about, live, on the spot, and it will always kill.

100% agree with Neal about Rory being one of the best stand up comedians you can go see
I saw him open for Colin Quinn at Toronto JFL a few years ago & Rory was explosively funny

I'm also from SC originally, but I now live in NC (they are different places).
Rory is my favorite part of the show Rooster. His character is a little like a modern Barney Fife. He's terrific in it, and it's a funny show, too.

I absolutely love everything Rory does! His religion stuff is so relatable to anyone who grew up with Christian guilt. I also totally relate to not firing until the pressure is on and it sucks so hard! It’s not about being lazy…your brain just needs that adrenaline to fire and it’s a huge block!
Big fan of Neal too and I like your angle of your pod. It also helps those of us who are a little messed up. 😂

Neal there was an insensitivity to some of your remarks about very intimate personal issues that he shared with you. Just play it back.

I once met a guy in Xi'an, China, who looked exactly like Rory. I met him at an openmic type comedy event. I told him… hey, you kinda look like Rory Scovel. The dude laughed and then did a dead on impression of one of rory's jokes. I gotta know, man. WAS IT RORY or not? couldna been. But feels onbrand

Thank you for having Rory on, As always, Neal and team great job! It's been a fascinating ride. Watching I've been listening to Neals pod since the episode one of "how Neal feel" And his transformations and evolution as a person have been wild to watch, definitely one of my deeper parasocial relationships and I have no interest in ever meeting him other than a passing " attaboy Neal"! I am very proud of him and I still think he should have Bianca on this show at some point. If they're still on speaking terms, it'd be interesting to hear her comment on that.

My mom died when I was 14 years old and I still carry that grief with me everyday. One of the greatest things I've discovered is Anderson Cooper's podcast about grief, All There Is. Highly recommend.
