Robbie Robertson was a gifted songwriter…….the weight, the night they drove old dixie down….its a pity that hedidnt get along with his former bandmates….had to do with drugs and alcohol…

Thank you Barry for this excellent coverage about Robbie Robertson. I'm not sure why so little has been said on similar channels about the departure of this great guitarist, but very glad you have given it your attention. My introduction to Robbie Robertson was in seeing the movie, The Last Waltz. I was completely blown away by his playing- Robertson could make a guitar sing. He, of course, wrote and played on some phenomenal music with The Band, and he will be sorely missed.

THE GREATEST ROCK MUSICIANS OF THE MODERN ERA ARE ALL GOING TO DIE WITHIN THE NEXT 10 YEARS AND THAT WILL BE THAT…what will be left is their legacy because let's face it what happend in the 50's, 60's and 70's can never happen again.

far too many obits this year. He was a subtle and soulfull musician. His playing seemed egoless. Aaron Neville's Crazy Love – the solo is sublime.

Also a great interviewee, one of the best to articulate what rock was, where it came from, and why it's great. I could enjoy listening to him talk almost as his music. RIP.

My two favorite living guitarists, Jeff Beck and Robbie Robertson, have checked out so far this year. If I'm #3, I'd be getting a little nervous – looking at you, Richard Thompson.
Seriously, the "Royal Albert Hall" (Manchester actually) boot had some of the best live rock guitar playing ever. Too bad Columbia (SONY?) smoothed off some of the rough edges when it was finally given official release. Play fucking loud, Robbie!

I wasn't hip to "The Last Waltz" until my mother rented a VHS copy in the 90's when I was in high school. Eventually I got a hold of the DVD. Who cares what format it is! I can party to that thing by myself anytime!! RIP!!

He was idolized and emulated by every local guitar player even before his Band days in the early 60s Toronto RnR scene. Hoping Levon & Robbie are smoking the peace pipe together right now – RIP Robbie. Our Toronto hometown legend!

When I heard of his passing, I immediately thought back to the Last Waltz, where Robbie and the rest of the Band
were reminiscing about their storied past in connection with their retirement gig. Like old men! 47 years ago! 😂

The greatest era and players of such is without a doubt going to be over in the next 5 to 10 years the high watermark unfortunately father time takes us all away just remember the good times and be thankful we all existed in this era to appreciate it for what it was and still is. Rip robbie

Thanks Barry. I'll always think of Robbie with The Band at the Last Waltz. That was his finest hour and they were magnificent that night. All captured for posterity in arguably the best concert film ever made. When they get to Robbie's masterpiece, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, the emotion on stage is breathtaking. First Gordon Lightfoot; now a few months later, Canada has lost another of its finest sons. RIP Robbie.
