Jessie Taken Alive-Rencountre is a Hunkpapa Lakota and a proud citizen of the Standing Rock Sioux Nation. With 15 years of experience as a school counselor, Jessie has positively influenced the lives of hundreds of students. In 2021, she was recognized as a future legacy leader by the Spirit Aligned Leadership Program, an international organization dedicated to empowering Indigenous women leaders.

Drawing on her rich Lakota culture and her professional experience, Jessie has published seven children’s books, with more in development. Her first book, Pet’a Shows Misun the Light, earned her the Great Plains Emerging Tribal Writer’s Award, marking her as a significant voice in children’s literature.

Jessie is also a Lakota Jingle Dress Dancer, passionate about sharing Lakota culture through storytelling, traditional song, and dance. She is committed to helping people recognize their worth and harness their unique talents, fostering stronger communities for generations to come.
