my current OTP is a boss/employee relationship and the boss killed the employee's girlfriend… it's also from an 18 rated version of a popular kid's show and I once read a fanfic where the employee's eyes were described as: 'his blue orbs were the colour of the welsh sea'… (It's Jack/Ianto from Torchwood if you want to know)

on the "orbs" thing, it depends for me. Like if you're calling eyes "orbs" its weird, but heres an example of a more acceptable version. "Her eyes were like the sky captured into two orbs" it makes a lot more sense and give a bit of description. Rather than just saying 'He stared into her bright blue orbs" because thats odd.

8:54 um hi so I do read at social events but only if I know I’ll get bored or uninterested in socializing so if it’s a family event or something but not like if I’m with my friends but the ironic part is im horrible at finishing books BUT I would NEVER EVER read at a concert like that would be insane

16:30 THANK YOU. OH MY GOD THANK YOU. as someone with a speech impediment myself, it’s so annoying when people portray it as like a cutesy thing or when they make fun of people who portray it as a cutesy thing by saying “omg stuttering is so cringe literally nobody does that”. thank you so much for being respectful and understanding it happens way less than it should 🙁

1:47 I feel like I should say that I've actually done this. I was at my dad's friend's house for his birthday and for like, half the time I was there, I read Crime and Punishment😅
Everyone ignored me though. Honestly, they probably forgot I was there, I was sitting on the ground next to my dad's chair.

I’m an anti-social introvert who’s sensitive to loud noises. I hate concerts and parties, if I was ever forced to go you bet I would bring my headphones and a book.

I'm usually reading at parties in some random corner while keeping an eye on my friends because i'm the Dad in my friend group. Gotta make sure they keep behaveing because they're horrible drunks.
So yeah i basically go to parties just to sit alone and read and play babysitter for two 20 year olds

This maybe a bit off topic. How about the trope of a guy in school joining a sport to impress a girl he likes and he scores like the winning goal or something then the girl gets with him.🎉😅

    Re: reading at a party
When I was in college, I was the designated driver for a friend’s 21st birthday. We went to a few bars and clubs and I will admit that I brought a book to read and I sat in the corner waiting for it to be over.

For some background – my dad was an alcoholic. I decided a long time ago that I would never consume alcohol because I didn’t want to turn into him. The alcohol is what eventually killed him. I hate alcohol and being around people who are drinking. I’m 28 and still have never had alcohol. Also I’m autistic and socially unaware and hate crowds/loud noises. So that’s my justification for “reading at a party” lol.

The unhappy ending IS annoying, at first I was like "it can't be that bad" until I was in my "crushing in the bowser gang" phase and read a reader x Victor fanfic that ended in both being dead.

Bro I once read a love triangle fic that advertised itself excluding the third character. So halfway through the story some random murderer guy shows up, almost kills the MC because "poor baby has trauma and unresolved anger issues 🥺🥺" and then she ends up liking him more than the other dude. But the first guy also happened to be a horrible person and I dont know why I kept reading. It was utterly absurd 😭🙏

Technically, I’ve read at a party, but it was reading fanfic on my phone and it was just while I was waiting for someone to come back from doing something lol.

I do want to write Henry Winter or Vaslav Nijinsky reading at a party, and then someone starting a conversation about the book. Henry is both snobbish and socially awkward in canon. Nijinsky was just awkward and anxious, and it's an interesting contrast to his stage persona

Ok, the way you described "16 year old living alone in a mansion", yeah that's obnoxious. But I have seen it done well! Like a fic where a female teen Harry Potter lived alone in Grimmauld Place. I think it was "Historical importance of runic war warding" or something like that.

Also Artemis Fowl and Valley of Secrets are great, though they are books and the boys are much younger than 16.

Can i shame you for rpf and being on Wattpad instead of ao3. Also the majority of actual good fanfiction I found dont have overly romantic stuff. Might be because im aromantic but…

Honestly I’ve never read during a party party but during big events like half way thru I end up in a corner either on my phone or reading a book because I get overwhelmed in social situations

As a fanfiction writer, I am, in fact, not 12. (But I don't write y/n stuff with weird stuff. I think my writing is quite good, thank you very much.)

Reading at a party is not a trope i care about, but i am guilty of actually doing that because im an introvert and it usually makes people leave me alone which gives me a chance to recharge. So yeah, people can read at a party, though likely you wouldnt be finding them reading actual books now a days when they can have e-books XD
