Youtube kept telling me something was against community guidelines in my long detailed description of why this song was about giving into internalized sexism and defending Poor Wittle Men From Evil Women, and how the og cover accidentally (maybe) subverted it, then when i clicked edit deleted the whole thing…

So yeah ill shorten it and lose all the nuance i guess. This is Cringe and its more Cringe bc i know her relationship. I know that grown man was waiting around for her to become an adult. I know she said some stuff about her wedding about how she'd always do whatever he wanted, and i know about enough going on to make Lemonade happen. It makes acting like this cringe all the way- im not embarrassed even, i see it as pathetic and sad.

Also like the "extremely traditional" raised this man stuff that doesnt mesh well with her public persona? Again. Check the wedding. This, i fear, has more of her in it than she even intended maybe

her version of Jolene being insecure but extremely threatening, like a wounded animal would've been great if it had been leaned into more. I had that energy of "kerosene" in a way..and then she dropped it. its really disappointing.

Now Beyoncé knows how European Americans feel while entering the hip-hop music establishment 😂 anyone of any ethnicity can cover any song, I hate the politicization of everything, this cover song stupendously misses the point of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” which was about women’s universal insecurities about their men, disposing them for a better woman.

Good analysis. And I'm definitely on the camp that voted for CRINGE.
So tired of the constant boss-babe-bullshit. And the woke shit. It's just everywhere.

Holy shit, I haven't watched Todd in a hot minute, but I'm surprised I've heard the original version driving through the sticks but not a word about this cover.

Beyonce is the definition of in authenticity! She is not in any way "country", she USED to be maybe before HER 1st album, but she lives in a new York skyrise, she can fuk all the way off!

Back when I was in highschool ,a country song like Jolene was so uncool and out of place when there was disco, Fleetwood Mac ,KISS and the Eagles
Maybe there wouldn't be controversy about black artists trying to sound country if they didn't sing it like hip hop
    Take lessons from Charlie Pride

In 2016 Beyonce was rejected by the Country Music Awards. This inspired her to create Cowboy Carter.
Now 8 years later…….she's still rejected by the Country Music Awards. Everybody has failures in life and this was Beyonce's.

Jolene is actually a two part song. Jolene is the begining and Tyrant is the end. This why Dolly Parton is featured on Tyrant. The Tyrant song is the real "Jolene". You gotta to listen and understand both.
In Jolene, Beyoncé is overconfident and way too arrogant. This was Beyoncé BEFORE she was cheated on.
In Tyrant, she says Jolene won. Beyoncé is fucked up. She uses intercourses as a way to feel powerful again. She's broken meanwhile Jolene is completely fine! And this is after she forgave her husband. This Beyoncé TODAY.
When you listen Tyrant, you realise Beyoncé has a very dysfunctional relationship. Tyrant seems like a good sexy song. It's actually the saddest song of this album like Jolene was supposed to be.

Beyoncé would be best served doing her own country song. Very weird to just put a remake of a song and even use that as single, if the remake was just a bonus unimportant song in the album it would make more sense.

13:14 if I had any musical skills whatsoever I'd cover this as Jolene like

    Doll-ee, Doll-ee, Doll-ee, Doll-eeeee,

I'm beggin of you, please get off my porch.

    Doll-ee, Doll-ee, Doll-ee, Doll-eeeee,

You'd better leave before I call the cops.

I'VE NEVER EVEN MET HIM, MA'AM,

    It's late, in fact it's 3 AM

You're drunk, Ms Parton, please go get some sleep.

You're slim and blonde, you're beautiful

There's nothing wrong with you at all

Stop crying, Doll'… Aw, Jesus fucking shit.

Now times are hard, the pickings slim

When every Bob and Greg and Jim

On Bumble's sending dickpics like a choad.

But honey, what I'm tryin' to say

Is he ain't worth the time it' take

To text his ass "Git on now hit the road".

I like Cowboy Carter much better than Renaissance, and I love Beyoncé’s take on Jolene. I’m amazed at the way people are 💩-ing on her now, when a year ago they were practically praying to her. Don’t get me wrong—I’m not a member of the Beyhive. I’ve never purchased ANY of her music. I’m just observant. People fall out of love quick 👀.

I've always adored the White Stripes cover specifically because of how much agony Jack puts into the performance (especially on the live recording). He's just wailing in despair, and that's the vibe I want from this song. Speaking of Jack White, does anyone else think his inclusion on Don't Hurt Yourself was, like, a warning? Because Jack was notably a guy who was in music with his wife and they got divorced. I've always called his presence in Lemonade "the looming specter of divorce"

Loathe as I am to ever defend the Grammys, I liked Harry's House more than Renaissance too. Though Hold The Girl by Rina Sawayama, Mal De Amores by Sofia Reyes and Special by Lizzo were all better pop albums of 2022 than either of them.

Beyonce has been cringe and has consistently released bad music since 2005. And she's easily my favorite pop star. Her last three albums have been embarassingly bad. Even Lemonade was awful. I can't believe anyone enjoys that trash

I've never liked Beyoncé and to be honest I don't really care for country music so I figured I would start with that just in case there are anybody that wants to attack me for not liking Beyoncé which is my right. I think Beyoncé going into country was just another ploy to sell her music That probably wasn't selling before. There doesn't seem to be anything authentic with Beyoncé switching to country there's nothing different about Beyoncé's voice and honestly she's not as good as people think. Yes she might be able to sing but she's nothing truly amazing or captivating.

As an european most (if not all) of the country artists you talk about are unknown here. I’ve lived in Spain, Sweden and Netherlands and I’m yet to meet someone that hears country music. Jolene tough, we all know Jolene
