I don't have anywhere better to put this yet, but I'm calling it now. CARNIVAL is going on the Worst List for 2024 and most likely the top 5 if I could guess.

This is very unrelated to the topic of the video but I was thinking that weezers Pinkerton would be a great fit for the trainwreckords series despite the fact it’s beloved now and one of if not their best album at the time of its release it was critically panned, didn’t sell well and did irreparable damage to weezers reputation and music that they arguably still haven’t recovered from thus fulfilling the criteria of an album that ruined their career maybe Todd can judge it from the perspective of a casual listener that liked the blue album and had complete tonal whiplash from Pinkertons harsher sound and didn’t get a lot of the conceptual stuff from the album, just a thought

Delight as always. I didn't love Em's new album but man characterizing him as a rangeless has-been reliving his glory days was a disappointingly uncultured take.

On the other hand if he was ever a good for the VMAs he definitely isn't now.

Relistening here so that I can thank Todd and Lina for always having such interesting guests, I’ve discovered so many creators from Song vs. Song!

    Also, get well soon, Lina!

Katy Perry is weird but she's too culturally evangelical to ever really lean into that in the way that for instance Chappell does because Chappell is authentically herself and Katy has always struggled to be herself.

South american here, and Anita is just about the same here, she has that one bit where she shakes her ass on the floor or something, "Anita's move", and that's about it, you don't hear much of her music outside of tiktok. Maybe in Brasil considering she's from there, but couldn't say.

"for a second i had a brief fantasy that the VMAs were gonna be relevant again off of this performance alone" – probably not the first to say this, but honestly i think it did do that. my gay little not-really-music-focused corner of social media has been blowing up over this performance, i haven't seen that happen in YEARS
