I see this release as completely unnecessary, I get that it was themed in the sense it followed the bands ascent from experimental music to conceptual giants in 8 tracks (referring to the 8 track from which 'Pigs of the Wings' was taken). But it seems an excuse for a pointless compilation album… Anyone disagree?

Yep, agree with every word you said Barry. Totally pointless release. Other than the "Pigs On The Wing 1+2" (which has been floating around in Bootleg land for years), there's nothing for the fans here. The segue items are literally non existent and this was the so called selling point. Noticed "Wish You Were Here" seems to have the levels at the beginning of the song pumped up. Steven Wilson said in a previous interview that there is a proposed two PF releases per year planned. If this is the sort of thing we have to look forward to, I think many fans will be keeping their cash.

    Ker-ching indeed!.
I'm desperately trying not to be too negative here, but this seems like proverbial barrel scraping..why not at least have offered alternative versions?.

Barry don’t fret about the Animals box set. Next year it’s gonna be re-re-re-remixed, as 2027 will be the 50th anniversary of Animals. This time they’re gonna add a cassette copy to the release, and charge 100 more of what you limey’s call quid. The Floyd do keep Steven Wilson employed remixing the same s h i t over and over again. Cause the first 9 times they didn’t get it right.

I first heard the extended version on a Russian version of (believe it or not) Dark Side of The Moon, and only later heard a completely different solo on the 8-track version. Turns out they (maybe it was Czech, now that I think about it) used a version from a Snowy White compilation album. THAT solo is flat out FANTASTIC!
It's on YouTube, just search for "Goldtop: Groups & Sessions '74–'94". The upload is not great, but you'll hear a noticeably more exciting solo.

If Wilson truly wanted to be clever, the popularity of the 8-track runs from 1965 to roughly 1983. Start with something like "I'm a King Bee" and end with, say, "The Hero's Return Parts 1 & 2" to cover both the lifetime of the Barrett/Waters-era band as well as the 8-track format.

My favorite band, a band that hasn't existed since 1983 (except for one night, 21 years ago) pretending to still exist in 2026 is so… corporate. In fact, didn't they sell their catalog to Sony for $400M? They should've called it "Music From Inside The Machine".
Roger? David? Pull your heads outta your asses and realize you're not going to live forever. Bury that hatchet, Eugene. Make some new music together while you still can.

Steve wilson should focus on atmos versions released on bluray. Why all the other guff which goes with the bluray , seen in the tales from topographic oceans deluxe set.

So wot's … uh the deal here?
We have 8 tracks here, 6 of which are also included on "Echoes – the very best".
Also, many of those tracks I already own even in multiple versions due to all those anniversary, immersion and MFSL re-releases.

They could have done a complementary album to the "Echoes" compilation without any doubles including other rarities like the original studio versions of "What shall we do now?", "The hero's return pt 1 & 2" or some special The Wall movie versions like "Mother".

Also the play on "8 tracks because the 'pigs on a wing' version is an "8-track" version might sound good on paper when actually making that up for about 10 seconds, but after that, for me it's just a cheap excuse to leave half of the disc empty a/ka giving us less for our money than they could.

So that's a hard pass for me, rather be listening to my 5h playlist of PF's best songs mixed together in a similar fashion (including the mentioned rarities)

Pink Floyd are probably my all time favourite band but I won't be buying this or anything else that is just a rehash of songs from albums I bought fifty years or so ago and still own. I'm sure there will be more than enough fans and collectors out there willing to feed the money making machine by buying this without a contribution from me. Nothing wrong with the music on this album but I thought Pink Floyd actually released five (and a bit if you include Zabriski Point) albums worth of material plus a few singles before 1971, just seems a funny place to start.
