genuinely i think that most of the alt categories such as goth, punk, metal are pretty much ruined, i mean sure there are some roots that have been untouched like for metal goregrind or some shit like that but even that is being whitewashed. Not only that a lot of people are just straight up fucking larpers without an idea what the band looked like in the prime. even speaking for myself, i am a very late gen Z and also like all of these genres and stuff, only thing is that im trying to culturize myself upon it and actually have an idea what it used to look like. worst thing is i used to get bullied for liking metal and allat and that i didnt fit the picture of everyone else, but now being "alt" is the hottest thing ever and everyone forgot the fact that they bullied actual punks goths metalheads and emos.

You bringing up sick new world is so funny to me because a large portion of the people there this year that I saw around my age or younger fit this vibe to a tee. Don’t get me wrong, a ton of cool people who actually are in tap with the subculture were present and I had cool interactions with them but there seemed to be so many people who were there as sort of a way to make “cool” tik toks, “alt/goth thirst traps” or IG posts and a lot of them were the same type of person who’d make fun of me for listening to ironically enough bring me the horizon when I was in middle school or various bands like SOAD, korn, or anything alt, metal whatever adjacent that I liked primarily because my brother and cousin introduced me and I fell in love. Maybe I am just internalizing childhood trauma and am a fat gatekeeper but idk man there needs to be some gate keeping

Euro Nu-Metal scene was pretty fucking decent though, especially around France.
