1:02 the full story is his mother wasn't casting for Harry Potter though, they'd tested hundreds of kids and hadn't found anyone who was right and his parents actually didn't want him to do it and had turned down letting him do a screen test back when casting first started. The casting was taking months longer than expected and the Producer really wanted Daniel to do a test for it so invited them out to watch a play and then asked them in the interval if Daniel would be allowed to try, and crucially unlike all the other children that tested he got the approval from JK Rowling which previous children hadn't gotten.

So he's technically a nepo baby but only for being in David Copperfield which his Mum cast. He just happened to also be known to other casting people and producers because once your family is in that industry they will probably all know each other. He wasn't hired for nepotism for Harry Potter because, although he got an audition via nepotism the final say on hiring came from someone unrelated to him who didn't stand to gain anything from his parents by hiring him. Like generally when we say nepotism we specifically mean someone who hasn't got the qualifications that is hired because of who they are, which he was kind of hired because of who he was AND because of the qualifications, so like not the same thing.

Nepotism is just an extension of human nature. If people didn't take care for their children then nepotism wouldn't exist in our society.

Nepotism is as old as human ingenuity.

Golllllly and I thought pro wrestling was bad with its nepotism 😬. It's always been bad there but current WWE is pretty much Anoa'i family drama featuring the occasional appearance from some other guy they're never gonna push past midcard status smh.

I used to hate nepo-babies in my teens and childhood. I had an annoying but rich relatives.

The uncle worked hard and turned into multi-millionaire, his 4 sons had wonderful lives, got 100k usd as investment for their own buisnesses from their father(my uncle), now my uncle's grand-children are having much better lives.

We are poor but made it to middle class slowly. Now, I kinda respect the idea of nepo-babies. If I have children, i would not want them to suffer/earn everything through hard work, that's a load of b*ll cause I'm suffering rn. I want them to have everything and if I have grandchildren, i want to spoil them too. But, I'm middle class at best. I plan to have kids after i became a millionaire.l might not achieve that dream, then i won't have kids, I would not want my kids to suffer. If I have em, I want them to have better life than i ever did.

I used to be a nepo baby twice in my life. My maternal grandfather used to be a tv producer for Nigerian television and my parents used to run a semi-successful heal care company. Sadly, I never got to use any of the advantages due to unfortunate circumstances and lackluster perks. My grandfather died a few months after I was born and was completely detached and forgotten from the entertainment industry. And I was in middle school when my parents company went under. Worse, my dad had to use mine and my sister’s trust funds to get out of debt, so that was disappointing. Nowadays, Im trying to build my own wealth……hopefully someday.

As the daughter of a small company owner, did I get a job? Yes. Was I paid significantly less than any legitimate employee, even once I "earned" a real employee position and not technically an intern? Also yes. Was I treated worse than any other employee cause my parents could get mad at me without consequence? Ding Ding Ding
Moral of the story, being a 'nepo baby' most definitely does not mean you are spoiled or have a great perfect life. Not defending those who follow the nepo baby stereotype tho, those guys suck lol

Damn I watched quite a bit of Bones and pretty much all of New Girl but never would have guessed why the stars of both shows shared an eye color. Guess its not a small world after all, just a nepotistic one.

Bad takes, Not everyone in life gets to be Rich/Have lots of wealth or the career they desire.. If someone offered you a chance to be famous or rich without work.. You WILL take that offer.. so why hate on "Nepo babies" ?

The kind of Nepo babies everyone hates are those that get a start with very little talent. EDIT: for example Zooey Deschanel and her sister have not exactly made the same kind of mark on the history of art and music, as say, Bach and Mozart. Nobody is gonna be referencing their work as foundational hundreds of years later.

Come on, Bach, really? A known genius who wrote some of the most important and foundational music in western musical history? I don't care whose son he was, that guy pulled his weight and more. He not only influenced most of the classical music that followed but deeply influenced people like Eddie Van Halen centuries later, for example. And I'm just scraping the surface here. Look the guy up. EDIT: And MOZART???? Trust me he would've found his way into the canon regardless of his family
