Spoiler: it's Atlantis. Atlantis didn't "sink" under the waves, she sank under habitable zones, and now she's sunk under ice. Used to be in a temperate latitude, then the magnetic polar shift sent the motherfucker sailing into the antarctic latitudes. Meanwhile, you got mammoths flash freezing in Siberia. Redistribution of landmass across polar and subpolar zones caused the Ice Age followed by the diluvian periods.

I would wager life will be found under the surface ice of Europa. Jupiter's gravitational influence will deliver. Perhaps lessons learned from Soviet missions to Venus would improve the success rate.
