Hello, folks — here’s part one of what will hopefully become a series discussing some of my favorite needle drops in movie history! Within this video, we talk about Quentin Tarantino (Chuck Berry – “You Never Can Tell”, Stealers Wheel – “Stuck in the Middle with You”, The Delfonics – “Didn’t I”, and The White Stripes – “Apple Blossom), Michael Haneke’s Funny Games (Naked City – “Bonehead”), Punch Drunk Love (Jon Brion, Harry Nilsson & Shelley Duvall – “He Needs Me”), and of course … Ma (Earth Wind & Fire – “September”). Hope you enjoy it! Woohoo! Go Ma!

Damn it, I want to see "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" by Andy Williams over an unaliving scene. "How Not to Drown by CHVRCHES and Robert Smith over a fight scene on a tram; I was on a tram in London heading to Croydon when this played on my phone and it got my gears grinding.

The end of the 10th episode of Voice 2 (a Korean drama) features one of my all-time favourite needledrops – "Perfect Asymmetry" by Desolute Circle.

Stranger Things: "Blue Bayou" by Linda Ronstadt where Will finally confesses to Mike.

My very forte memory of an awesome needle drop , was “ in the air tonight “ Miami vice first episode . As a kid it blew my mind how much more emotional the scene was

Not sure if this counts since it’s a movie directly connected to an anime series, but KOMM, SUSSER TOD from The End of Evangelion is one of the most perfect needle drops in anything I have ever seen. Contrasts the bleak despair of the events of the movie with such a sweeping, beautiful, and most importantly, fun song about grieving over the pain of human connection. All wrapped up in a psychedelic, sexually provocative, catastrophic, ,”Book of Revelations” Esq ending. Shit was incredible to see in theaters.

I’m not sure if it’s ‘needledrop’ but one of my favourite uses of non-original diegetic music is that track in the diner at the end of Moonlight. Absolutely perfect. Also School of Rock when they’re listening to ‘Immigrant Song’
