Leanne Morgan | In The Presence of a Comedy Angel | Mike Birbiglia’s Working It Out Podcast

Mike Birbiglia | November 23, 2025

On the heels of her new special “Unspeakable Things,” Leanne Morgan joins the podcast this week to talk Southern beauty shop gossip, getting started in comedy selling jewelry door to door, and in what way Mike is “her Elvis.” Plus, the time Leanne may or may not have been picked up in an SUV by President George W. Bush.

My ma-maw used to say gossip isn’t a sin if it’s the truth. During particularly intense Sunday dinner, she threw a pan at my Yankee preacher daddy when he dared to suggest otherwise.

We are awwwlllll Leanne, and we love her.

Leanne, I'm so glad you didn't tell your children to turn the other cheek if someone bullied them. That's just teaching them not to stick up for themselves, and it gives them a sense of low self-esteem. I totally like what you did. You were a good Mama. 👌💕

I’m southern, I had a friend that used to pretend to be a character at restaurants while ppl eavesdropped. Sometimes she was British and would tell fabulous stories. 😂

I will like any and all interviews with Leanne. She is a gem and I'm so glad she came up and exploded in the way she did, so she could be the mother she wanted to be and then dominate comedy from a perspective that I hope to see more of in the future. 👑

Her story is an excellent reminder that “overnight success” is often the result of decades of enduring demoralizing rejection, abject disappointment and unrelenting hard work. No one should begrudge LM her current success, ever!

Love Leanne. I can vouch for the accent I'm from the mountains of SW VA, Tennessee is my neighbor we both have these strong mountain hollar and little town rural accents. Like Bom Hower(?) on King of The Hill where you need subtitles. Show Moonshiners is from my neck of the woods surprised me at fist they had subtitles.

She reminds me of the sitcom with a blonde lady with a southern accent and I can’t believe that the memory of this 90s show is coming back to me but I also can’t think of her name at all
