Not to be nitpicky, but there was a change in the actors who played the mother and son on the classic Lassie TV series, and that wasn’t mentioned. The original mother and son were Jan Clayton and Tommy Rettig. Later, those roles were played by June Lockhart and John Provost.
In the photos you were showing Jan Clayton and Tommy Rettig, but the article kept referring to June Lockhart and John Provost. It would be nice if the editors clarified the cast change so viewers aren’t left confused.

A joke that I heard somewhere: During the time of the TV show Lassie there were three actors that had played Timmy. One of them got into serious legal trouble. On his way to prison he was asked if he had ever learned anything inspirational from being with Lassie? He replied this is what I learned from Lassie: “If you can’t eat it or screw it then piss on it.”

Lassie reruns aired at 5 in the morning (for some reason) when I was a kid in the mid-70s. I'd set my alarm so I could catch the show. Haven't been a morning person since.

I grew up watching Lassie reruns and thought I knew the show pretty well, but several of these facts completely caught me off guard. Its amazing how many interesting stories were happening behind the scenes of such a wholesome and beloved series.

I vaguely remember episodes of Lassie, but I absolutely watched it on Nickelodeon when I was very young. I remember Dennis the Menace more vividly, and even the cartoon version!

Sounds like with all the deception and Falsities or all the non-truths, it seems like Lassie should be a synonym for lie😂😂🤣 OMG!! I Loved, Loved, Loved this show. And you don't know how much I wished Timmy would have fallen in a well!! 😁 Just kidding. Lassie was a Great show❤

My dad was friends with Lassie’s breeder & owned one of “her” offspring. They’d use Lassie to meet girls too. Lol

Describing the farm : As a former horse owner – familiar with the 'scents of a barn' – NO ONE would want their barn as close to the house as it was in the 'Jeff and Timmy years'. Then, of course, there's the fly and bug issues, too, being that close to the house ….LOL….

Anyone remember when Ruth (June Lockart) showed up in the 1997 reboot claiming Lassie was her dog. Lassie was born on her family's farm and was the last of the lineage and she wanted her back. A big fat lie cause any real real fan know Lassie was willed to Jeff when her owner (Homer Carey) died. Lassie only became a part of Ruth's family after Gramps died and Ellen/Jeff sold the farm to them. Timmy and Lassie were part of the package. And, btw, not only did they leave Lassie behind when they moved to Australia, they left Timmy behind because they forgot to legally adopt him. No way is that B getting Lassie!!

My mom brought home a collie pup when I was somewhere between 3-5yo (60+ years ago). A police officer in our small town was going to have her "arrested" for being off leash, and the Chief of Police told him Lady was the only dog in town that was allowed to be off leash because she protected all of the neighborhood kids. Even if we weren't home, she'd hang out with whatever group of kids that were at the park playing (no such thing as a helicopter parent back then). She played basketball or baseball with us or went fishing with my brother at the river or just lay in the shade watching us. At least once that I remember, I fell in that river (couldn't swim yet), and she pulled me out. My brother delivered the newspaper on his bike every day, and Lady ran along beside him. She was the best dog.
A couple of years ago, we lost our 2 15yo dogs within a month of each other, and after a grieving period, I decided I wanted another dog and opted for another collie (instead of our typical rescue dogs). So, I researched a good breeder and drove 500 miles (roundtrip) to get my Ellie Mae. She's a year and a half now, and growing out of her getting into everything puppy phase and is going to be another great collie dog.
A Lassie dog was my first and will be my last dog.
Btw….we need another Lassie movie, so this fantastic breed can make a comeback. They're perfect for an active family, but they aren't too hyper that they get into trouble (like the Border Collie (one of my last 2 dogs) – It took her like 10 years to finally calm down).

The only Lassie I ever liked was with Tommy Rettig, Jan Clayton, George Cleveland and Donald Keeler as Jeff's friend. Never cared for Jon Provost asTimmy Martin.

I think the reason that "Timmy fell down the well?" was because we all saw how stupid everyone acted and secretly wished timmy fell down the well

Actually, Jeff fell in a well in the first season. That’s how forgotten the non-Timmy eras were but especially the Jeff era.
