Wolski's?! Good god that was the first bar i ever snuck into during my MSOE days in the 80s. I just walked in, handed the guy my real ID with all the others in our group and he let us all in. 5 minutes later he came over and said 'awwwright, which one of you guys tried to slip me a '67 ID?" We all denied it and pulled our cards back out and just waves it off and said naaahhh, i believe yas" i got the bumper sticker "i closed wolskis" that night. No car to put it on, though!
I am here to tell you a Wisconsin transplant to the west coast has their work cut out for them to find an honest old fashioned. Not the new old fashioned mind ya. A joke I tell is that there’s this bar in Wisconsin that advertises an Old Fashioned made 12 different ways- only one of them is correct! As for me I’m of the I’ll that likes them made Charlie’s way but in a tall glass with a whole can of 7-up. A refreshing “punch.”
It is a criminal offense against brandy (and all other liquors) to put ice in ON TOP OF THE BOOZE. Everyone knows that the booze is POURED OVER THE ICE. Straighten out, Charlie!
I reminisce about Brandy OF sweets and no one outside of WI has any clue what they are. Whisky old fashion sours have some clout over in CA but if you talk about Brandy they look at you like you're an alien. Hence I feel so seen by this. Love the buck knife😂
My dad just passed last year at 98 and we will never take down the green guiding tennis ball on a rope he placed in the garage to let us know we are in far enough.

Everyone I've ever met (in 20+ years of bartendending) just calls that a Wisconsin Old Fashioned. I've never heard it called a Brandy Old Fashioned.
