Homophobia & The New Disney Princess

Kurtis Conner | January 21, 2026

There is a discussion about an LGBTQ+ Disney princess becoming a reality in the next few years, and there was a lot of backlash on Twitter. This backlash confused me and frustrated me so I made a video about it.

I feel like the rate of homophobia has increased quite a bit in the last few months, especially on Twitter. It’s disgusting and wrong, so if this video can change the mind of any homophobic person, then I will be very happy.

It's 2025 and we still don't have a queer Disney princess but Disney cut a queer storyline in Elio and lots of other stuff so it wouldn't seem "gay"
    The future doesn't look promising.

Love being recommended this 5 years later bc the closest weve gotten to a canon lgbtq disney princess is toh. And there arent even any princesses in it

Found it! I started at your oldest YT video and watched them till I found the first time you pretended to cry. You have the most hilarious crying face. It’s my favorite thing you do. Cracks me up every time.

4:11 I relate to this, I'm not homophobic, but-

I'm asexual. I've been told that I'm not gay enough to be accepted by the LGBTQ+ community. I don't suffer enough. I'm sure I've just been unlucky meeting the not so nice people from the community. It doesn't change the fact that they seemed to think I wasn't gay enough to be 'one of them'. I 'just blend in with everyone else, no one even can tell I'm not straight'.

There are not many movies that really provide a character for me to relate to. Usually the asexual characters are the genius character, an alien, a robot, a 1000 year old something or other, any non-human character that is 'other'. And that's great. Perfect. They also did an episode on House, where there were people who were asexual. Then it turns out that isn't true. Haha. Just kidding! We 'fixed' them. Now they like sex.

So when I watch a movie like Frozen, I see a character that might be like me. Then I mention that maybe Elsa is asexual. But, no. She has to be a lesbian, and have a girlfriend, she can't just not be interested in that sort of thing. She can't be a queen of ice and just be. She needs to have people try to pair her with a girl she barely spoke to, since she didn't have any guys around she talked to.

I also am not 'normal' like the straight people. Since I don't really have an interest in sex. I have people who at first will act like they are fine with it. Then, they will try to 'change me'. Saying 'well what if you just try sex?' 'You might not have met the right person yet'.

I never had a crush on anyone as a kid. Not famous people, not classmates, nobody. When I was in high school, everyone said that me and one of my close friends should date, because we liked each other. I'd never dated anyone before. I didn't understand. But, I asked him out. We dated for four years. I think our parents were more invested in our relationship than we were. We may as well have just stayed friends because that's all we were. Really close friends. And we still are. Even years later.

I don't know why I bothered writing this into the void, but here it is. I think they should make movies with characters who may or may not be gay, but not have the romance be the focus of the story. Let them get to know each other, hold hands maybe. I'm so tired of the flat romance meet cute happening in a matter of days, then they get married. And don't think that it's very different if you are gay or not, it happens on all fronts. To me, I think all sexual people need to cool it down a bit in movies for kids. Doesn't matter if they are straight, or gay.

Because who really knows what they want when they are four years old? Seven years old. Even twelve. And if there is a gay character, great. But, I personally don't like seeing anyone being all kissing and such. Doesn't matter if they are gay or not. So, yay for me. I won't get what I want no matter what they do.

I know I'm super late to this vid but as a nonbinary aro bigender lesbian (ik it's a lot) To hear a straight man comment on this so accurately makes me smile from ear to ear.

I think part of the problem is that some straight people hear lesbian or gay or any other identity & automatically jump to sexualizing or demonizing us. We’re just people living our lives, like you 😭 Even saying my own identity, lesbian, feels wrong and dirty bc of the way some straight men sexualize our relationships or some straight women trivialize our relationships by kissing their best friends, so quirky. Meanwhile, actually lesbians can’t kiss in public, LET ALONE HOLD HANDS, without being harassed. Come on now

Man escalated a hypothetical from gay kid watches tv and sees heterosexual people (99.99% of the population) feels like who they are is wrong immediately jumps to sucide bruh

its so ridiculous that people are so STUPID. like i could understand (i suppose, with my low standards for the human population) a parent being "scared" or smth of their child watching a film ENTIRELY about idk "gayness and gay gay and rainbows" bc a young child would probably fail to understand it, but a simple inclusion of somebody being gay won't do anything lmao. its honestly so important to have inclusion/diversity bc otherwise, uh hello, people will be underrepresented and grow up to think they're ugly/weird/etc. i could talk abt (for literal years) how often media queer-baits, or just in general overly tries to be "hip" or idk, "modern" considering the LGBTQ+ community, but the mere mentioning, or small inclusion of a character being gay is not going to kill you. grow up chad, and for gods sake get off twitter.
