I think my favorite Zappa album is You are what you is.

At the risk of being down voted I'd say the Zappa/Mothers discography is already too large to keep up with, especially with the numerous posthumous releases. I don't think I'll be investing in further releases.

"Move On" (the pre-release single they shared on YouTube) is beyond amazing. The rest isn't worth the cost. Might as well be a weak boot at best. Very disappointing.

One for the major obsessive. I found my attention wandering pretty quickly. A 'you had to be there' situation.

I'm happy the the Zappa Family Trust stopped all the infighting and got on with releasing more music for us to enjoy. Music is the best.

I have no Zappa in my collection ….this might be my first….he was a genius, he knew how to take care of his band as he always paid them whether they were working or not…..great review mate…..Be Well …..๐โ๏ธ

Streaming the album just now, the big revelation is the version of Duke of Prunes. Finally, after six decades, we can hear the original lyrics of this love song before they were vandalized by Frank to make a mockery of the song, which he would release on the album Absolutely Free. Only Frank Zappa would release a lampoon version of a song he wrote without ever letting anyone hear the original song that is being lampooned.

I'm not going to win any popularity competitions here but this album is "bitty" in my opinion. Listened to the whole thing last week and it started amazingly but has a bit too much "bonus content" breaking up the music throughout. Great if you're obsessed with Zappa but not suitable for anyone just wanting to hear music.

I was never a fan, but he was undoubtedly a brilliant composer.

The Mothers stuff rewards repeated listening. When I first started getting in to Zappa in the early '70s that was all we had. Zappa was the Mothers. There were no guitar albums; no Terry Bozzio or Vinnie Colaiuta; no Ruth Underwood and George Duke etc. It was a different listening experience and we didn't have much money. We played and studied the few albums we could afford and we really listened to them. We got to love Frank from those early Mothers albums. It was probably the anarchy of them that appealed the most. Thanks Barry.

The man was a genius.
The reference to the Bongo Fury box is a very sound one. Some great extra material therein. Unequivocally recommended

In the 1980s, Zappa said that America was in danger of becoming a right wing theocracy… He was quite perceptive wasn't he?
