Episode 45: FX Reservation Dogs Episode 6 recap and review
This is the Willie Jack episode we’ve all been waiting for…it’s not quite what we expected but over delivered in my opinion. Willie Jack and her dad set out to hunt the deer that has eluded them, Chunk. While out and about Leon shares with Willie Jack his encounter of Tallman and they discuss the circumstances around Daniel’s death.
This is a wonderful episode that touches on religion, belonging to place, connection to land, Land Back, and suicide. This is a powerful episode that doesn’t get enough credit for what it is, the first TV show that depicts the reality of leaving the Rez.

I really appreciated the acting by Jon Proudstar in this episode. With the previous episode and this one, the show is spotlighting the older Native actors by giving them 3-dimensional characters to play. While Big is definitely my number 1 favorite adult character in the show, Leon is a close 2nd. In interviews, Jon said that Sterlin made sure to put him in the show after he missed out on filming the pilot due to a postive Covid test. Sterlin is bringing a lot of Native talent with him in the making of this show, and they're all doing such stellar work.

I like how casually spirits and creatures like Tall Man and Deer Lady are treated. These are things that Native people are used to living with, compared to how alot of other media sensationalize everything.
