The Beach Boys started in the early 60s as America’s surf rock champions, and went on to have one of the wildest, most surreal, and at times darkest histories in popular music. My brain is honestly kinda broken by it all. But today I’m getting into all of it. “Surfin’ U.S.A.”, “California Girls”, Pet Sounds, the legendary SMiLE sessions, the band’s rivalry with the Beatles, Brian Wilson’s creative genius and personal struggles, the rise of Carl and Dennis Wilson, Mike Love’s controversial legacy, and a looooooooot of things inbetween.

43:49 isn't that kind of deliberate? I might be biased because Good Vibrations is my favorite song… ever, but I always associated it with a kind of spell: it's meant to evoke a prayer, a chant. Its contrasting parts and vocals make the song sound almost like a ritual, meant to express or call upon the love the protagonist feels.

Incredibe video! As a big Beach Boys fan, you captured their entire history really well! 😀 even if at the end, i would have some more focus on how Brian was able to actually get better and heal properly and despite all his mental health and substance abuse problems, he managed to get to 82 years old, which is incredible 😀 but I do understand your choice with the ending and its also a good choice for when it comes to the whole band ^^
Also Adult/Child got officially released this year as part of the second disc of the "We Gotta Groove: The Brother Studio Years" compilation and its really cool to hear Brian doing jazz big band Arrangements for the band, but I understand if you are burned out on the band for the time being xD

Very well made video. So happy to see more people talk about the Beach Boys. They are my all time favorite band. Brian went through a lot. Suffered from success, illness, and abuse. Was quiet because no one ever would understand. But he had his brothers, Carl and Dennis. Both amazing makers of the bands songs too. Incredible part of the band. They knew brian needed comfort. They loved each other. Cousin Mike pushed many buttons, Best friend Al always kept it straight, Good ole Bruce was there when Brian couldnt, also made wonderful music! These guys did so much together. They were a family. S tier band my elders loved and passed down to me!
Do it again was also a statement song that told people "hey, we can still make hit records"

I'm gonna preface this by saying I've lived in Liverpool my whole life. So I know my Beatles.
…and I'm way more interested in The Beach Boys.
People don't like to admit that The Beatles recorded their fair share of rubbish. I'd go as far as to say they never made a 10/10 album without a horrendous track. Bad Beatles is just…bad. (I'm happy to list at least one tragedy on each album if challenged, cos I'm sure loads of people just blew a gasket)
Bad Beach Boys is so FASCINATINGLY bad. The highs are so high and the lows are so low, and there are so many WTF moments. The Beatles are kinda boringly consistent.
In addition to that, 5 people were making The Beatles records (you have to include Martin). Brian was doing all of that on his own. And Pet Sounds doesn't have anything as mundanely terrible as Yellow Submarine, or Good Morning Good Morning, or When I'm 64.
The Beach Boys are so endlessly fascinating in a way The Beatles just aren't. Being consistently critically acclaimed and popular is just unrelatably dull.
