The Nixon story is unreal. The fact that Nixon watched the first episode and called it 'mad cap' – without smiling of course – is peak Nixon. Conan's obsession with history and historical figures really makes for great podcast moments. This episode shows why these older guests bring so much to the table.

What is going on with Conan's shirt. It looks like something a teenager would wear in a prep school. Good color on him though.

Oddly, Conan's choice is Lincoln. He was hated by BOTH sides, but still did great things on his own, by not caving to his critics…Like Trump(who Conan hates).

On the whole this was a bad interview. Look how much Conan talks compared to his guests. They couldn’t get a word in edgewise.

I liked Lincoln until I read an episode about an incident in his legal career. He was close enough to his judge that they always slept in the same bed on the circuit. At best, the judge was not a bright legal mind, and Lincoln would make frivolous, unjust arguments, knowing the judge would trust him and agree. A woman was cheating on her husband, and she and her young lover conspired to murder her husband by poison and did so. Lincoln was hired to defend the young man. In any murder trial a critical aspect of the evidence is motive, which in this case was the affair. But Lincoln convinced the judge to prevent the jury from learning about the affair based on the misapplied legal theory that such evidence would "prejudice" the jury against the couple (duh). But the judge bought it, the jury predictably was confused by the seeming lack of any motive, and the couple escaped justice. That runs strongly counter to the "walk a mile" honesty his campaigns sold to the voting public. I'm sure that man's family would have been glad for him to keep his penny if the murderors of their loved one had been required to face a just trial. Just my two cents.
