Chappell Roan is one of the biggest / fastest rising stars in the world, but there’s some kind of disconnect between her celebrity status and her portrayal in the media. Looking at her personality in front of the camera, through the lens of Erving Goffman and “The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life”, I’m giving my ~opinions~ on her, her “””controversies”””, and the public reaction to them.

Not for nothing, there's also the choice to not post how much you want to be left alone a bunch of times on various platforms.

Those other people keep that "air of mystery," aka privacy, by just not giving it up. She probably struggles with wondering whether money and fame will dry up if she doesn't pop up in feeds and give people something to talk about.

I don't know much of her and am not a fan of the music, but she seems cool enough. I'm not sure who's being more naive or provocative here, though; you, or her?

Another person who was mobbed and stalked all his life was Michael Jackson. The hype around Thriller was so big, he couldn't escape the public eye for even a second, which caused him to do some really heinous things because nobody would leave him alone. Same with Chappell Roan. She is so big that people expect her to be a top performing artist on every front, similar to what MJ was in his heyday. The difference is that Michael had a lot of media training and was forced into the public eye at five years old, gaining fame with The Jackson 5 and then stepping out into becoming his own artist. Same for Chappell. I think people see her as the next Michael Jackson, and want every single piece of her, and her speaking up about it proves to the whole world that she's not someone to be trusted as a person.

Yeah, and I love the fact that she's speaking her mind about it, even if it does mean lashing out at photographers and boycotting the Grammys for ruining her speech.

Yeah, whether you like it or not, everything Chappell Roan does is like an act on a playwright or movie screen. Every conversation and every thought we have is a curated piece of the puzzle that everyone wants to play.

You can’t make people feel like they know you and expect them to act like they don’t. Art is more work than she expected. I wouldn’t be an artist for that reason alone. But it’s not a practical expectation.

I can relate to every aspect of her personality. I quit music when the fame became too much, so yes, she is a champion and I root for her. Also, sexism. You know it.

At least she's slightly better than what the previous generation used to listen to, like Justin Bieber and all those degenerate rappers.

HOLY FUCK VANCE JOY MENTIONED!!! WTF IS SUN ON A FRIDAY?! (Idk where that was leading to but it's meant to be a reference to one of his songs "Saturday Sun")
