Thanks to you both for sharing this, talking about it, and for all that you do. Listening to what a day, hysteria and strict scrutiny helps keep me sane and bolsters me to keep fighting.

I don't believe Dolores Huerta, it seems to me she was trying to trap him with two pregnancies, but he was a married man. So she discaredted the babies.

Instead of reporting statistics like 1:4 girls will be victimized before age 18, I’d be interested to know how many men, out of all men will be perpetrators in their life time.

This is all bizarre. The UFW failed those kids. I watched a video where they interviewed the president of the UFW Teresa Romero and she said they didn’t investigate because there was nothing to investigate. It’s a huge failure and a tragedy that The NY Times were the ones who broke the news.

In my opinion this was all known for a while by Huerta and by other influential people in the movement and they chose to not come out. Part of this is also brought by the Chavez family not putting up any kind of resistance to the accusations.

This reminds me a lot of what happened at Penn St with Jerry Sandusky.

He regularly cheated on his wife and wasn’t exactly close with his kid and violent clash with illegals one time while calling them on a video interview ā€œwetbacksā€ and he didn’t exactly work closest with other leftist and civil rights movements especially the Chicano movement. He was very controlling and manipulative in handling his movements by instead of firing someone he will overwork so they will relieve themselves. He was insecure due to his lower class roots in working with someone who isn’t such as rejecting a meeting of a sympathetic catholic because he was a white Anglo Saxon. Dude personally wasn’t the saint that is without sin that could do no wrong.

Canceling Cesar Chavez doesn't threaten corporations or the wealthy, it just demoralizes and disorganizes the working class and Latino communities that might otherwise build real power.

Latino culture tends to protect predators as well. It’s always ā€œdon’t tell anyone that this happened to you because we don’t want people to knowā€ and of course we have to continue to interact with the abuser because they’re usually always family or a family friend. The women that came forward are so incredible brave. I believe they still have that little girl inside of them who is ready to speak up for herself even if it took a long time.

I understand and generally support the leftist/progressive push to rename streets, schools, and other institutions that bear Chavez's name. Meanwhile there are scores of schools, monuments, and public infrastructure throughout the American south named after Jefferson Davis and his Confederate generals. No one seems to be in a rush to rename those.

Quoting someone else: 'We simply can't overestimate how thoroughly sexual abuse has permeated every era of patriarchal history. It's a feature, not a bug."

This story is hard to believe. So, she had sex with him once which resulted in one pregnancy, and I understand that is biologically possible. But, rather than report it and run away, she had sex with him only one more time (never before, never after) and she got pregnant a second time? Once again, this is possible but the chances are extremely low. More likely, she was his long-term girl friend and they were having regular sex. So, Dolores, tell us under OATH where you spent all those nights? Dear Dolores, how much money do you want and who do you want it from? From poor farm workers who are current members of UFW and were not even born when the alleged incidents happened? Also, please NAME the corrupt lawyers who are encouraging you to do this and who are helping extort money from poor farm workers, and from whom they will take 30-40%. I WANT TO KNOW WHO THE LAWYERS ARE? Please tell us! YOU are disgusting.

Why now? Since when do minority women get this much coverage for SA. It’s usually white women. That in itself is disgusting. Life is precious no matter what color they are. My guess is someone is trying drown news cycles. It’s probably scummy Newsom, Trump/Epstein or this Zios- Iran is winning & BiBi is in comma.

Teach your children especially your little girls about maniac men out there. Even found in your own family.
They can’t be trusted sad to say but they are loose cannons. Pedos all over the place and running this country too. That’s so shameful.

They never believed Anita Hill or the psychologist who was sexually assaulted. Those 2 men were given a pass and a seat in the Supreme Court!! How sick is that???

There is an incredible documentary on HBO called Marcial Macial the priest who never was held accountable to many crimes including sexual abuse of children, women having been abused, an 8 year child and he abused for many years where he traveled with him to many countries. This is about power and the ability to use the power to attain the goal of the monstrous acts they incurred during their lifetime. I respected Noam Chomsky not fan girled but after I found out he was friends with Epstein, he is no longer admired respected in my mind. Cesar Chavez is a monster and should be held accountable even after the many years. This is not the exception this is the rule, how can you come forward if people will not believe you.

We have a 10 story Federal building in Denver called the CƩsar E. ChƔvez Memorial Building. They better rename it. This is no bueno regardless of what reasoning.

Chavez was a product of the machon, Mexican culture. This is what the song "Macho, Macho Man" evokes. Men take women. Or borrow them at their pleasure. Men have agency. Women are at their command. I passed the LUPE and United Farm Workers headquarters on my way home from Costco today. I crossed Cesar Chavez Boulevard. Hmm. Why aren't there Dolores Huerta Boulevards?
