Black Sabbath’s First Manager Responds to Sharon Osbourne Diss

Rock Feed | January 4, 2026

The original manager of Black Sabbath is firing back at Sharon Osbourne after she blasted him on the Osbournes Podcast over the release of rare Earth era recordings from 1969. Sharon accused Jim Simpson of trying to cash in, waiting for copyrights to expire, and keeping all profits for himself. She even questioned whether he paid for the studio sessions and called him a pig.

Now Simpson is responding point by point. He says he paid for the recordings, he owns them, and he always intended for the band to receive full royalties. He also says that if the band refused the royalties, the money would go directly to charity. Simpson claims Sharon sent him threatening emails after he asked to release the restored tapes through his label, Big Bear Records.

Well…i did listen to the tapes.
The music there is exciting, fresh, poignant.
I think it would be an act of respect towards the fans releasing the material – however, Sharon deserves her share, for her to do what she pleases with it.
Jim (not Jack) is a nice lad too, very important for the Birmingham music scene. I wouldn't go as far as calling him a pig. Also: he did good to Black Sabbath at the beginning, when success was light years away.

I think they should all grow up, and strike a deal. It needs to be released. And Sharon also needs to work with Rudy Sarzo, to release the Ozzy/Randy Rhoads music, he claims to have. The fans are the ones that suffer, from this childish behavior.

I met the esteemed Doctor of Music at Birmingham University, Mr. Jim Simpson, the day after the last concert (though it wasn't just any concert)

near the Black Sabbath Bridge, and the encounter was absolutely stunning. We all know the story of Black Sabbath.

I simply couldn't believe my eyes that I had the honor of meeting him, and he handed me a flyer advertising the release of these records. I've been waiting to hear it ever since. As a Black Sabbath fan, I don't pay attention to all this talk of future money, but I don't think Jim will do anything bad. But, Sharon, I'm sorry, but I want to hear these records while I'm still here (on this earth). As a Black Sabbath fan, I have the right to do this, and it cannot be stopped, just as it is impossible to stop the universal love for Black Sabbath – after all, they are a worldwide phenomenon, and I am glad that I live at the same time when they created – so let these testimonies of history, these recordings, finally see the light of day – throw away your ego and show respect to the fans

Well, people doesn't know how copyright works. Any recording has its own separate copyright. That's why bands rerecord songs and that's also the reason behind Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of Madman versions without Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake.

Of course I think they’d be fun to hear. Are the rest of Black Sabbath part of the decision? I’m pretty sure the music that Ozzy wanted released has been released. Why argue with Sharon?

I'm so sick of this kinda crap ! Very similar to the Randy Tapes situation. Bob Daisley wrote the lyrics to all the Randy stuff & then some ! Ozzy didn't write squat ! He only came up with a MELODY ! That's it, a Melody ! Bob wrote the lyrics !!
EVERYONE JUST QUIT YOUR DINKING AROUND & Release these tapes & the Randy ones too !!

As a 45 year Sabbath fan this is very easily settled.Let them all get together in a mutually agreed upon place(i.e a mutually agreed upon attorneys office) and start to iron this all out, after they initially verify his claim to be true, but then after coming to whatever agreement is fair to all parties, if they can even get there, then release the recordings which would be a beautiful ,musical gift to the world!!

2:47 the cream painted house behind Simpson is Ozzy's childhood home in Birmingham. It's a 10 minute walk from the football stadium where he played his last gig earlier this year.

Somewhat moot really. I mean who owns the rights to the recordings? This is how it works in the biz. If Jim Simson owns the rights to the recordings then he is perfectly within his right to release them as long as its not under the name Black Sabbath. I think it speaks to him that he offered to discuss all this with the band and Sharon. Sharon is notoriously protective, difficult and even vicious to deal with when it comes to Ozzy. Understandable. However, I'm with Jim, if he thinks the "music world" has something to gain from this and he owns the rights, then fire away mate…

And again as @sharonosbourne said! If he has these tapes the classy right thing to do would be to bring them to Ozzys wife! Out of respect end of story! If he does not SHAME ON HIM

I stand with Sharon on this.
Why wait until ozzy passed on to mention this?!
Why bring it out all of a sudden now the very same year we lost ozzy?!
    It’s a cash grab attempt.

Sharon Osbourne had a crowd throw eggs at the band Iron Maiden during their set at Ozzfest 2005. In addition to the eggs, the band's power was also cut off during their performance.
No use for such childish behavior.

I usually back shave on but Simpsons was really the only one ozzy talked well about and he stated more than once that the band shor sided Simpson when they left and they felt bad about that. Jim lost as much as Sabbath did . There was no bad blood and this was before sharon really new ozzy and sabbath. Sharon has ALWAYS been tight on their copyrights and if you don't pay enough or shr doesn't like your idea or persona, then you ain't getting shit of ozzys.

This is an area sharon is well known for. It's just what it is and I think ozzy would agree.

This is typical Sharon. Getting angry and habing a pop at someone for doing wot she has always always done herself. Don’t like the taste of her own medicine does she 😞

    Hss no class at all

Unpaid royalties??? And Sharon's Dad was Don Arden!!! Pot, Kettle, Black maybe? Just do a simple 5 way split, Led Zepp style. If any band member does not claim his royalties, give that portion to the said charity. No need to drag this out, unless someone is seeking more publicity then this really deserves. Let the music and most importantly of all, the fans benefit. After all, without us, we would not even have heard of Sabbath or Sharon in the first place.

I pr- ordered the album but canceled it because it got delayed so many times, or I will wait when it is out or I'll try to find it on bootleg. Hopefully I'll find a cd that also contains The Rebel

THey keep talking about black sabbath and then they show pictures of jigsaw or was that howdy doody? Either way when it talks i cant see any wires so good job on the puppeteering!

Nothing surprising here. Sharon's father, Don Arden, was regarded by many as the biggest shark in British music. So the apple didn't fall far from that tree!

1st off, Sharon wasn't part of Black Sabath's initial claim to fame. 2nd off did the band members say no? It's up to them now that Ozzy has passed. And I don't think she's hurting for money??? So I don't understand her anger over the issue 🙄.
