Cheers from Demon-Drakon bro! Imma music blogger from Tik-Tok and i find your videos cool as fuck! Just came down here to say that first ATG album is a holy grail bro! Through Gardens of Grief easily one of the most powerful DM song ever

My favourite is Terminal Spirit Disease. Maybe not as an overarching album, but each song is phenomenal and beautiful. I like them more than anything on Slaughter, although I admit that as a whole album, SotS is much more cohesive and compact.
At War… is their best post reunion stuff imho (including the new album). The Ghost… is just a tad bit behind. Interesting that their weakest output for me is The Nightmare of Being. I just didn't like the proggy and krautrock elements. Simple as that.

Sadly, this album is pretty boring, same as the last few. I understand why more people aren't saying that though….At War With Reality was a great come back and nothing has topped it.

I don’t know why, but the feeling I got when I saw new At The Gates album was, ”eh, not my thing, I’m deathgrind”. Then I listen to it and 7 of the songs went on my playlist LOL.

Very excited to listen to the full album. Also really glad to see some love for The Nightmare of Being. I loved that record. I wish we could’ve gotten them to explore that sound a bit more but I’m happy they went to a more stripped down sound for Tompa’s last. RIP Tomas.

I have two schools of thought on ATG. They are a ground breaking, genre defining band with a catalog of music that set the standards. Kudos to them and RIP to Tomas. The second school of thought is I only want to hear Slaughter of the Soul. I prefer their experimental tinges in The Haunted with Peter Dolving on vocals. I also love where The Haunted took the thrashier side of things. ATG is still top tier across the board.

I stop watching after one minnute dude 😕
Random riffs, and repetition on TRITSIO ???
Thats The most progressive and anti – repetitioned music in all of metal…
Masterpiece ( including secont WFIKTBD) …
Everybody have their opinion and I respect that, but after those words, your taste is not relevant to me…And mine is not relevant to others, except me 😀
    sorry
    Good day…

Love the red album maybe because of the atmosphere and a 15 year old me being blown away by it, I preferred it to the sophomore
Terminal spirit could of been there best if they added a few more songs

I get where you're coming from. But for me, With Fear is their absolute best record. Dirty as hell. Slaughter was just clean riffage imo.

I remember catching At the Gates opening for Behemoth not that far back and going "Man, that band is a bunch of pros." Such a totally locked in bunch with a great sound and the ability to bang out classic after classic. Tomas sounded just like the albums, it was crazy.

RIP buddy, you were one of the best to ever do it.

I don't think I would've checked out some bands you have done album rankings on including At the gates a couple of years ago so for that I appreciate you

I was so bummed when Tomas passed away 😥

I am definitely a Red In The Sky Is Ours defender, and I think what it comes down to for me is that there really weren't a lot of metal albums that sounded like it at the time. It is a bit unfocused and the production is pretty thin, but it has so much personality and some of the riffs are just killer! At any rate, I'm not trying to change your or anyone else's mind; just making my case for it.

think most were a little underwhelmed by AWWR at first due to the high expectations bu its def grown on me to be my second fav. would agree To Drink is pretty disappointing after the single. good list, RIP Tomas

The red in the sky is my first purchase of an at the gates albums… It was at a time when i had already heard one song from slaughter.. but i can say I enjoy the red in the sky . Probably because i also bought the debut sadist album above the light. Decadence within debut and i think only album. Plus other rough styled death metal, garage punk rock.. etc music.

May Tomas Lindberg Rest in Peace. His passing, alongside Ozzy Osbourne and Brent Hinds hit me the most of any metal musician we lost last year. If this upcoming album is At the Gates's final one then I have a feeling it will be a great note to go out on for such a legendary vocalist and frontman. As for my ranking, it would go:

S – Terminal Spirit Disease, Slaughter of the Soul
A+ – To Drink from the Night Itself, The Nightmare of Being
A – The Red in the Sky Is Ours, With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness
B – At War with Reality

I personally would've only ranked the actual new songs on Terminal Spirit Disease and not the old ones that are also live, then it's their best release for me. I love all those 6 songs, whereas on Slaughter of the Soul, there are actually a couple of songs I don't care that much for, even though that album is a fairly close second overall still.

Of course, if one expects ATG to be a melodic dm band like any other generic Gothenburg band, putting The Red in the Sky… on the bottom tells me that you came into this band at a later point. 1992 was a perfect wave of death metal and this debut was at the crest! It's both crushing, creative and oddly catchy. And yes, chaotic. Also, you could try to pronounce the album name correct.
