Are We Due For Another One? | Lightning Round

Check out the Pressure Changes Everything line at https://laughsmarter.com/collections/pressure-changes-everything

In today’s Lightning Round video, we talk about the world’s history of extinction events and ask how long do we – statistically – have before it happens again. Also do some YouTube talk, debate why aliens would come here, and look at a megatsunami that rippled across the Earth for 9 days. In 2023.

Here are the links to Sean Munger’s excellent videos on the JFK assassination:

So…tell me how many times you've worried a problem into submission? Yeah, me too. Someday something will get us, en masse, or absolutely individually. Hey, nobody is getting out alive.
In the meantime, I'll allow myself to be lulled by laundry, delicious takeout, family, sunny flower gardens, all the things that just kind of signify that all is right with my world.

Only thing I wanna say bout ur comment on jdk assassination, yes he 100% acted alone but thats not saying he didnt need help not getting caught before he was ready. The 3 biggest things thay always stand out for this is 1. A bit too much info on the guy with dates prior to the event for them to NOT know what he was doing. 2. The 5(maybe it was 8 I think) cops that were upset at their chain of command for making them wait so long after the first shot rang out (15-20 seconds depending on wich testimony u look at. And 3. Those damn Russians. They were SOOOOO scared that we thought they killed jfk but the issue of this is, isnt the fact the denied it within less than an hour of receiving the message, no it was how calm and decisively they said "We know it wasn't u" with the reasoning of "we know, that u didnt want him dead" and left it at that…

On the question of why aliens would be interested in us – consider that interstellar civilization would have thousands of times bigger population. So even if only a percent of a percent of them would want to get involved – you would still end up with more aliens than there are humans.

There would still be lots of violence if the world operated on globalism. The non-elites and psychopathic tyrants (basically all of us) would commit genocide against all of us.

13:55 I found that most predator species have babies that rely heavily on adults to keep them alive after birth, while species that are hunted need to start moving within hours after birth.
Off the top of my head, birds, crocs, and gators are non-mammalian species that care for their babies for an extended period after hatching.

How to make world peace: make the cost of war higher than its potential profit. Every war is a cost/benefit analises by everyone involved. Its why western countrys struggle to get soldiars. So what do you do?
Make resources abundend through space mining, water reclimation and robust energy infrastructure for everyone. Open and frequent global travel and communications. Cant fight a war without soldiars. You wont get soldiars if doing the dangerouse job undermines their own prospects or has the potential to harm their friends.

Second. Believing jfk was killed by a group rather than an indevidual is not the same thing as ascribing it to a specivic group.

Oswalt didnt act alone and at the very minimum got assistence through incompitance. But that doesnt mean i subscribe to any specivic theory, and apsolutly reject it was a goverment planned thing.

I don't think for one moment that if we learned of a hostile alien species gunning for us we would band together to defend ourselves.

Half of us would be trying to cut deals with the aliens to sacrifice everyone else to save themselves, and the other half would just be celebrating the impending extinction of humanity because God or Gaia or just Humans Bad or whatever.

As for a one world government and would anyone want it… Kind of? I detest nations as a fake concept invented by wealthy and powerful people to hoard resources and recruit plebs to fight the plebs of other wealthy and powerful people.

I just wouldn't trust wealthy and powerful people to run a single planetary government better than they do national ones.

Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean there are not conspiracies!!! The longer I love the more I am certain that there are an abundance of dirty, greedy politicians and stupid voters. They are made for each other.

They need to do an HBO miniseries of the JFK assassinations each episode is a conspiracy theory. They all follow Oswald and end when he gets shot by that cop one episode he works for the mob, one he’s just arrogant works alone and pisses off that loyal guy, when he’s actually a four assassin and so on you could probably get about 7 one hour episodes

Extinction of humans by our own hand would probably lead to world peace, depending on your definition… There would be no more human conflict at least.

not all animals survive on their own from birth… KITTENS dont even open their eyes in the time it would take them to die from thirst… That is just ONE animal… There are MANY that rely on the parent for survival at birth… Do the people who ask these questions, know about AI?

World peace is so dubiously possible. Right now it doesnt seem possible, but 1500 years ago, something akin to the UN, Nato or europe, things like that, might have seemed like a dream too. (Real) Democracy would have sounded insane to anyone even in ancient Greece, where there was already some sort of democracy. It think it is possible, but hard to imagine. Because with social things, innovation is way harder to imagine years ahead. Because our current situation is so much 'what we are' instead of 'where we are'. New tech is easy enough to fantasize about ('where we are'), but social, and hierarchical restructuring is too much part of 'who we are' to be able to imagine something different.

What’s curious is that they just don’t re-release smallpox? Or the bubonic plague? They keep trying to kill us with Ebola or Covid and stuff. I mean I hear the Spanish flu spread because they “vaccinated” all the US soldiers who went off the WWI. Seems we’re harder to kill than they like!

We are not "using up" the Earth's resources. All of the resources on Earth, with the exception of the solar energy chemically stored in fossil fuels, are still here on Earth. They haven't gone anywhere. All we really do is move them around and concentrate them.

LOL, so naive thinking that the exposure to ALIEN LIFE would bring us together… RIDICULOUS! You would have every religion on the planet demanding that their god sent them… Every government on Earth would be fighting to get them on their side and if the aliens visited their enemy's country, NUKES… SO DUMB… OH and that is if they are friendly… If the aliens are hostile, well, every government on earth would sell their grandmothers to get on their good side and would do everything in their power to sell out the rest of the human race…

You can adjust your algo by deleting stuff from your history.
If you want less music videos and more science stuff, delete all the music videos from your history and let 10 seconds roll of a bunch of science stuff.
    It will adjust.

You can also just make extra accounts just for a specific purpose.
I have one that I have only ever watched Lofi and bird channels on. It's on 24 hours a day on a small tv for the cats. It only plays lofi and birds, they love it.

Fascism bring us together? That's an ahistorical take, if I've ever heard one. Did fascism bring Europe together in the '30s and '40s? Is fascism bringing the US together today?

Fascism breeds conflict, needs conflict. And for that reason, fascist regimes are brittle. It builds power by turning people against each other. And there's a strong tendency for members of fascist movements to turn on each other too.

What could bring people together is dealing with inequality, building a world where everybody stands to gain by working together.

Most of India’s famines happened during the times of British rule. Reminds me of stories of the Irish potato famine. And other British colonies. Hmm.🤔

    Today we know…
We don’t KNOW squat! We surmise this based on a million different suppositions half of which are provably false! Stop pretending we (i.e. scientists) have ANY surety about something unobserved and unreproduceable!

Jokes on you, the aliens in my head are constantly at war with themselves and other aliens just like we are with ourselves… Can't help but imagine any other creature would be different considering essentially all species on our planet fight for resources even amongst themselves regularly. Kind of silly to think they aren't the same.

I am glad that you have realized conspiracy theories are really just pattern matching that humans do. If you just look at the dumbest thing that could possibly be true, it's almost always that.

Carrington event 150/ 200 yr intervals, miyake events, 800/1500 yrs. A 2001 congressional study concluded that the worst effects of a repeat Carrington level event could be 9 out of 10 Americans dead after 1 year. Some progress has been made to harden the grid in the last 25 years since that study but no where near enough to prevent disasterous effects from a genuinely massive CME, and in the last 2 years Miyake event research has confirmed less common solar storms can be many times greater than Carrington level. In 2012 we dodged a huge storm by just one week of orbital movement. The general expert view is if that storm had hit us we would still be rebuilding society today. Long term we need a decentralized, fully spared, partially underground grid that is purpose built to survive and or be quickly rebuilt after a massive CME solar Geo Induced Current event. It's not enough to just have early warning sattelites and just turn things off and hope for the best, that won't cut it when the Big one hits

Its interesting that all the ‘meteor’ events happened over millions of years ago and nothing big enough to wipe out much has happened since… and the only thing that has wiped out humans on scale is ourselves…

Perfect timing, I just watched Don’t Look Up a few more times to realize that is probably what will happen if we get a comet heading right at us 😂
