Cool story for music heads.
I was 14 in 1987 and an all out metalhead thrasher, was going to the local music store on my bmx and they had the GnR AfD cassette fresh out of the box putting them on the shelf. I saw the cover and thought it was very cool so I bought it and needless to say I went to the store to see if they had DEATH SCREAM BLOODY GORE and they did. I left with both and that GnR was awesome – it was like rock and roll got a facelift. It rocked – Mr. Brownstone was a favorite. Also a great tape to have around the ladies.

I bought my first GNR Appetite cassette off of Columbia House's 12 for a penny ads. Played the heck out of it! So many great songs.

I was a junior in high school and recorded the videos from this album on VHS to listen to until I could make some cash and buy the album.

The only “problem” with any GNR song is they were overplayed to the extreme!!! My personal big love for the band started with me hating them so much for the only reason they were everywhere, non-stop played on any radio and TV! It was because you could not watch any Top 5 or Top 10 without GNR being on Number 1, doesn’t matter the song! Back when it was “Dial MTV”, (when I could only watch 30 min of music a day, because of Timezone restrictions) and every single day, I’m not joking, every single f’kin’ day it was GNR on Number 1 with Don’t Cry … Every single time I was like “O Noooo… not this band again!!!”
That all changed when I bought the “Use your Illusion” albums… I understood that this was not only a big hits band, but pretty much every other song could feature on the “Best Off” of any other band…. That’s when it became my favorite band and listening to Appetite for Destruction after that, only further consolidated their status! G’N’R forever!🎸❤️🌹❤️🎸

AC/DC-Back In Black (1980) Top 3 should include: Welcome To The Jungle, Paradise City, and Sweet Child 'O Mine. Don't care how overplayed they are. ALL other answers ARE WRONG!
@jackylsmith8138
June 29, 2026 at 2:05 am
As far as Anything Goes, that is about the 5th version they came up with. I like the older versions better. Your Crazy was written acoustically the label forced them to plug in and record it.

G'n'R is kind of overrated to me. They really don't have much output. Great debut, yeah. Use Your Illusion certainly has enough songs for a great album, but certainly not 2.
They were the only concert I've ever left before the show ended. Use Your Illusion Tour in Hampton Roads Coliseum, VA. First of all, they came on about an hour and a half late. (Surely due to Axl.) It was a Wednesday night and people had work the next morning. Anyway, well into the show Axl goes on a stage rant berating anyone who listened to bands like Motley Crue, Poison, etc. (Fuck off, Axl.) Then they go into this really long and drawn out instrumental jam, ala Spinal Tap at a state fair. People were STREAMING out of the venue, including my wife and I.
But I will say this: I've NEVER seen a venue explode like when those opening guitar chords to Welcome to the Jungle rang out. The whole building seemed to shake.
As for the tracks, I'm guilty. I only pretty much like the singles. And Rocket Queen is cool too.

June 29, 2026 at 2:05 am
Okay .. I love you dearly, but I can't take it anymore lol. Appetite for Destruction is NOT… I repeat NOT… a hair metal album. In fact, Appetite for destruction was the antithesis to the "hair metal" genre.( Jesus, just the term makes my stomach roll) I firmly believe Guns was the beginning of the end for that whole lipstick and aquanet era. Guns were the match that lit the fire to end all that carbon copy garbage and began a move back toward raw, heavy, REAL rock and roll. Then Seattle took it too far in that direction before being bought and sold just like happened to the great bands that started that whole 80s scene .. Motley, Quiet Riot, WASP, etc. thank God by the mid nineties bands like Marilyn Manson, White Zombie, And Pantera came along to save metal. 😊

Graduated High School that year. I remember when Paradise City started playing on MTV and thought it was ok. It wasn't until I started college in the Winter that the album really took off. It was on every bar jukebox and played at every apt/frat party. I remember when Lies came out and there were lines at the music stores to get that album when it came out. Appetite is the best of their catalog. Definitely one of those era defining albums and made those that came after a lot harder to get into.

I think Appetite For Destruction was the first Cassette Tape I bought that I actually liked and listened to every song on both sides of the tape. Before that album I'd usually just listen to any random bands cassette tape once to see which songs I liked and didn't care for and only listen to that one song I liked or a few songs on the whole album. Appetite turned out to be one of those rare albums that I could listen to the entire thing no problem.

Guns N' Roses might be overrated as a band, but Appetite for Destruction is certainly not, and it's absolutely earned its status as one of the greatest Rock Albums of all time, as well as the greatest Debut Album for any band period.
