I'm an audio engineer for one of the "dad rock" bands (also known as "divorced dad rock"). A lot of the bands got butthurt about the label, while the band that I work for embraced it and sells shirts with that printed on there. Wild to think the music I loved as a teenager and young adult is now considered old, but young people still love it. It's timeless

Some of these are good, and the subject is amazing, but this was just rambling for almost 8 minutes without really saying anything or commenting on anything. oh well.

I definitely relate to the discussion about liking music from before my time. While there were bands I enjoyed from when I graduated high school in 2012, my earliest memories of music involved my parents playing just about anything short of gangsta rap in the car in the mid-late 90s. My parents had CDs and tapes from Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, U.2., R.E.M., etc. in the car.

Good lord Conan get through your sentence. Pause think pause think. Go through your notes ahead of time so you know what’s going on. It’s like you’re deciphering it for the first time and don’t know what’s the hell you’re asking.

When Popstars flopped financially I was devastated because it was great and I knew it meant he wouldn’t get the green light to keep making those kind of movies.

dear youtube, i couldn't give a flying if this video "contains paid promotion." almost all of them do, and clicking on that notice by mistake is annoying AF

I never watched (nor watch) SNL as it airs but for some strange fluky reason I was watching when "Lazy Sunday" first aired. And I remember thinking "oh, people will be talking about this on MySpace (yes kids, MySpace…) for weeks."

Just because they don't have celebrity friends doesn't mean they didn't exist. It's kind of odd to be saying Andy Samberg and TLI were responsible for "creating comedy online" when they were one of many. Even within the comedy music space there was Jon LaJoie, Schmoyoho, Bo Burnham, and NigaHiga to name a few. TLI did really funny songs and high quality music videos, for sure. They didn't pioneer anything, though, they just added to the space. Which is fine. I don't get why it has to be sensationalized.

I remember discovering Lonely Island’s YouTube page when I was in like 9th or 10th grade and thinking I had discovered these unknown comedy geniuses only to find out later most of their videos I was watching originally aired on SNL lol as you might guess I’ve never watched SNL (though I’ve seen hundreds of individual sketches on YouTube at this point)

It's like I've said in my set: "The only thing out there that makes me feel old is the fact that Gin n Juice came out in 1993. With my mind on my money and my money in a socially conscious index fund."

I had music moment like that with my now ex's younger sister…..Around 2006ish she was talking about this new band called Greenday and I was like "What???…new band they've been around for a while".

I don’t use the word underrated very often but I still find it hard to believe that Popstar and Hot Rod were box office flops. Popstar literally had every element a good movie needs

Anybody who remembers YouTube in the early days will tell you that it was mostly people uploading videos of them covering songs on their guitar in front of their MacBooks. They were definitely people doing skits and comedy, but that was pretty unknown to most people.
