Have heard a bit from this group. I like what I've heard. My #21: Going with the 9th album from this great artist & his band who started in 1976 and kept going until he passed in 2017. My pick for today is from the Italian band Dues Ex Machina; it is the live album Diacrpnia Metronomiche. DeM seems very under appreciated among the modern Italian prog / jazz bands. Not the best place to start, but a really fine band.

Arch Enemy – Black Earth
This is their debut album, so it was before they went female lead singer. John Liiva did an excelltent job here and laid the foundation for what became one of the leading bands of Melodic Death Metal.

Greetings and good day, Pete. SoT selection put on the ever-expanding listening list today. Personal pick today? Once more into the realm of something completely different. The original Broadway cast recording released August 27, 1996, on the Dreamworks label from the play winning the Tony and Pulitzer Prize awards: Rent with music and lyrics by the late Jonathan Larson. Was lucky enough to see this in previews at the Nederlander theatre (while it was still under renovation) in the City with the original cast. It catapulted to being my favorite musical and held that spot for years and though it's not the top spot now, it remains clearly in a top five position. For anyone not familiar with the story, the play is said to be based on the 1896 opera La bohème by Giacomo Puccini, Luigi Illica, and Giuseppe Giacosa. It tells the tale of the lives of a group of nearly-destitute young artists and their lives in the bohemian and strong HIV/AID times of what is known as Alphabet City in Manhattan's Lower East End. So much so that Rent is now viewed generally as a period piece of art. So much more to the plot but let's talk music. It's difficult to separate the live performance thrills from the music but here goes. Some that stand out even now are One Song Glory sung by Roger (as played by Adam Pascal); Light My Candle sung by Mimi (Daphne Rubin-Vega); La Vie Bohème with involvement by the whole cast and the rather timeless Seasons Of Love also with the entire cast. And personally, I specifically remember Maureen's (Idina Menzel) introductory song Over The Moon and thinking something to the effect that "man, this person has got a VOICE". Larson' melodic and musical talents are well-displayed here and makes it just that more tragic that he died in January 1996, before his play moved to Broadway. By this time, people generally either adore or disdain the play. But it's going to hold a spot in my musical mind and heart as long as I'm on the planet. Thanks, Pete.

Going with the debut self titled album by Limblifter from Canada. Call it alternative-rock or power-pop, it was a nice change back in the day. They scored themselves a few radio hits with tracks like "Tinfoil", "Screwed It Up" and "Vicious".
