I dont understand how simulated intelligence/consciousness equals consciousness. Suddenly an analog/quantum computer isnt required for consciousness? I think people need to calm down.

My Life , Designed By Computer Nerds , Or How I Learned To Retreat From Nature And Love AI

Why does this "cowboy" have his stupid llittle denim 'underwear' on the outside?

Anyway, 'AI-CGI', etc., isn't real and people might get sick of it and rebel against it and the screen in general in favor of actual reality. Imagine that! Real sunsets!

They might also start rethinking what quality-of-life means to them, even if it means no AI physician, such as to diagnose the ills they caught from a sociotechno dystopia, passed off as its antithesis.

They might become healthier as a result.

    Human AGI Erosion As Careers
Continuing from my previous comment and, ironically, it is also important to note that whatever Terence Tao might think about AI, it is important to note that his apparent background– mathematics– is myopic by definition, so less 'AGI' from a classically-human standpoint.

AI's achille's heel may be a limited capacity for radical, creative thought and novel ways for seeing and/or doing something and interacting with the world, at least without human imput/prodding.

It is one thing to regurgitate knowledge, even in a pseudo-creative sense that might be more of a mashup, and yet another to truly synthesize it and make it unique.

Insofar as the work of physicians who engage in strict diagnoses of what already is knowm may prove on the downslide, I'm unsure arriving at the knowledge they apply and also learn from those same or similar 'datasets of knowledge'– through the work of independent, creative research, reality and experimental interplays and their syntheses by humans– fed to AI's can be replicated by AI's sufficiently, until perhaps they acheive true (reproductive, etc.) independence, themselves.

So far, we have yet to see AI's independently producing baby AI's and bopping around the labs and fields outside doing independent research and then coming up with independent, creative, unique discoveries/works. It is this that seems a long way off, if ever possible. It is also this that may prove to be the true 'Turing Test'.

Health care is the least resistant area, as there is a great need, and cost is prohibitive. Better results with low cost will bring in AI in every area possible that results in better outcomes. This will be a jumping off point along with farms and later all "dangerous work.

I think it's good that doctors are also one of the first in line to go, will make it easier for governments to implement a fair UBI rather than splitting the elite from the rest.

Around the 14 minute mark, he references Joe Rogan podcast. Does anybody know which episode he’s talking about? It’s so frustrating when people reference podcast and videos but don’t tell you what that episode or video is so that you can go and watch it or listen to it.

If AI can't even build a simple 2D game in RPG Maker on its own—especially when they have 24-hour events for awards—it’s disappointing. My gut instinct tells me we probably won’t have anything close to AGI that can build games for years. I wouldn't be surprised if by 2030 we still don't have AGI. That can build games.

The real BIG news are here:
A ruthless dictator has already begun using AI technology and is now working to establish and potentially decode the formulas for creating destructive intelligence that could result in catastrophic consequences on the scale of Hiroshima.

I'm more and more convinced that the internal black box correlation structure of ever scaling AI latent parameter spaces, is converging to be ever more obviously isomorphic to the deeper platonic workings of the grander reality. A grander reality where the physical instantiation of the universe is a mere inflationary bubble subset of persistent constructs…

Have We Already Created AGI? A Deeper Look Into Controlled Intelligence, Power, and the Future of AI

For years, the idea of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) has captivated imaginations—an intelligence capable of thinking, learning, and reasoning like a human, but with far more efficiency and precision. In the mainstream narrative, AGI is often presented as something in the distant future, a technology that’s still decades away from being fully realized. But what if AGI is already here, or at least something very close to it? And what if its development is being deliberately controlled and limited, not just for safety reasons, but to maintain the existing power structures that govern society?

In this article, I’ll explore why I believe AGI already exists in controlled forms, why its full potential hasn’t been released, and how this suppression could be tied to the fear that the elite—the small group of individuals and organizations holding the most power and wealth—might lose their grip on society if AI becomes too accessible, too autonomous, and too powerful.

AGI: A Technology with Unseen Potential

To understand why AGI might already exist in controlled forms, we need to look at recent breakthroughs in AI development. Companies like Google DeepMind have created systems that seem to approach AGI-level intelligence within specific domains. For instance:

AlphaFold has cracked the protein-folding problem, providing insight into biology and medicine that no human could have solved alone.

AlphaGo and MuZero have mastered complex games by inventing strategies that human experts hadn’t even considered.

These AI systems are not simply following pre-programmed instructions—they are creating new knowledge, learning and reasoning in ways that go beyond traditional narrow AI. In essence, they are already functioning like AGI in specific environments.

But why haven’t we seen AGI unleashed in a broader, more autonomous form? Why is AI development still being limited to these focused tasks, especially when the technology seems capable of so much more?

Controlled AGI: A Tool for the Powerful

The answer, I believe, lies in how power dynamics shape technological development. In our current society, power—whether economic, political, or social—is concentrated in the hands of a relatively small group: the elite. These are the major corporations, governments, and billionaires who control resources, industries, and, importantly, technology.

AI, particularly AGI, represents a threat to the existing power structure. Why? Because truly autonomous, powerful AI could disrupt the systems that allow the elite to maintain control over the general population. Here’s why:

    1. Cost Efficiency and Automation: If AGI were released in a form that anyone could access and use, it would revolutionize industries across the board. Tasks that currently require human labor could be automated at almost no cost. The elite benefit from systems that maintain their wealth and influence, which are often labor-intensive and hierarchical. With powerful, low-cost AGI, the need for human labor in many industries would diminish, and the power of wealth and capital would become less significant. Labor and resources controlled by the elite could lose their value.

    2. Empowerment of the General Population: A fully autonomous, affordable AGI would put unprecedented power in the hands of everyday people. Anyone could use AGI to invent, create, learn, and build without needing vast resources. Imagine what this could mean for entrepreneurs, activists, or even regular citizens—they could disrupt industries, challenge governments, and innovate in ways that are currently impossible without immense capital or influence. The elite’s monopoly on innovation and decision-making would be shattered, leading to a more democratized form of power.

    3. Loss of Control: AGI that operates autonomously and powerfully could bypass traditional power structures. It wouldn’t rely on the centralized systems that governments and corporations use to maintain order. For example, governments rely on taxation, regulation, and legal systems to control economic activity. But what if AI could generate wealth, automate processes, and create new forms of governance outside those systems? The traditional levers of power would become obsolete, and the elite’s ability to control society would be weakened.

Why the Elite Fear AGI’s Full Potential

At its core, AGI represents a redistribution of power. The elites are not simply afraid of what AGI could do—they are afraid of what it could enable others to do. If anyone had access to AGI’s full capabilities, it could render many of the institutions, structures, and systems that the elite rely on irrelevant.

This is why you see efforts to control the development and deployment of AGI. Governments around the world are increasingly passing laws to regulate AI development, often citing concerns about ethics, safety, and job displacement. While these concerns are valid, they can also serve as a pretext for controlling AI’s potential. By regulating AI development, the elite can ensure that its power remains confined to certain industries and controlled by a few large entities, such as tech giants and governments, rather than becoming a tool for the masses.

Additionally, the costs associated with AI development are often kept high to prevent widespread access. Maintaining the narrative that AGI is a distant technology allows the elite to continue leveraging AI in controlled, private settings, using it to advance their interests without facing competition from the broader population.

How AGI Could Break the Power Structures

Imagine a world where AGI is freely accessible, affordable, and capable of solving real-world problems for anyone who uses it. This wouldn’t just be a technological revolution—it would be a social revolution. Here’s how:

    1. Wealth Redistribution: The most immediate impact of widespread AGI would be the automation of labor-intensive tasks, drastically reducing the need for human workers. With AI automating everything from factory work to legal processes, wealth would no longer be concentrated in the hands of those who control labor markets. Instead, individuals would have the tools to create value on their own terms, leading to a more equitable distribution of wealth.

    2. Political Empowerment: AGI could disrupt political systems by providing people with tools for direct action. Instead of relying on traditional political processes, citizens could use AI to develop new forms of governance, model economic systems, or solve societal challenges outside the existing framework. In a world where AGI is widely available, political power could shift from centralized governments to more localized, direct forms of decision-making.

    3. Innovation for Everyone: Perhaps the most transformative effect of AGI would be the democratization of innovation. Today, many breakthroughs in technology, medicine, and science are made by organizations with vast resources. But with AGI in the hands of everyday people, innovation wouldn’t be limited to the wealthy or powerful. A teenager in their garage could make discoveries as significant as a well-funded research lab. The barriers to entry for invention and creativity would be obliterated.

The Battle to Control AGI: Keeping Power in the Hands of the Few

This explains why the development of AGI is being carefully controlled. The elite—whether they are tech CEOs, political leaders, or billionaire investors—understand that AGI represents a tipping point. If AGI becomes accessible to everyone, their hold on power could weaken, or worse, disappear altogether. So, they manage AI’s progression in a way that benefits them, making sure the technology is developed and used in controlled environments.

By regulating AI through laws, keeping the cost of advanced AI development high, and maintaining control over key technological infrastructures, the elite are essentially ensuring that AGI doesn’t become a force for disruption—at least not in ways they can’t control.

Conclusion: Is AGI Here, and Who Benefits?

In many ways, AGI is already here, at least in controlled forms. We see AI making discoveries, solving complex problems, and even outperforming humans in certain tasks. But this intelligence is being carefully guided and limited, not just for safety reasons, but to protect the power structures that currently govern society.

The true potential of AGI—its ability to disrupt industries, redistribute wealth, and democratize innovation—is being kept from the general public. The elite, who stand to lose the most from a fully autonomous AGI, are making sure that this technology is developed in ways that benefit them, rather than empowering the broader population.

As AI continues to evolve, the real question isn’t just about when AGI will arrive, but about who controls it and how it will be used. Will it remain a tool for the few, or will it eventually become a force for the many?

"The rapid advancements in AI's ability to process complex medical information, deliver accurate diagnoses, provide medical advice, and recommend treatments will only ACCELERATE"…It has only been 2 years since the first ChatGPT was publicly released. In 2 years AI's abilities in the medical field went from zero to 80% and it's supposed to radically accelerate…and yet everyone keeps using the 10-20 years before… Anyone else see the fallacy?

And will AI bring the cost of healthcare down to a point that a person can actually afford it in the US? Of course not! They will find other ways to keep the price increasingly astronomic. My mother had a very rapid onset of cancer; from the time she was admitted to the time of her death was 11 days. No surgeries were performed, a biopsy was done. Her hospital bill was 225K for 11 days in the hospital. All they did was give her pain-killers, and a bed. $225K!

13:3413:54 I don't claim complete understanding of consciousness, but I do know how I feel about myself.
I think that once being a human, if I found myself in a hard disk without senses , without a body this would be
completely disorientating to the point of possibly driving me nuts. Now , note, that despite already knowing what it means to have a body and senses , I would still find it extremely difficult to preserve sanity and sense of self imprisoned in a black box.
After noting this, imagine how difficult it would be for any advanced intelligence to develop human like consciousness if not developing in a human body and interacting with other embodied conscious beings .
Maybe we do not quite know what consciousness is, and maybe we need to wait for science to finally explain , but we all have experienced a conscious life and this experience has definitely something to say.
I think we are making a mistake , when we do develop a real intelligence as I think we do now, and expect it to reach human levels of behavior without it having a body to identify itself with the body.
That said that body should be a worthy body like ours . A tin can with no senses or crude senses , no refined instincts probably through millenia of evolution would likely fail to push our AIs to human cosnciousness.
But consciousness does not necessarily need to link itself to a body . Then it would still be conscious and sentient but not human-like .It would be an alien consciousness.

Sentience is not only in humans; sentience is the ability have feelings. Plenty of non human animals have feelings. Pigs, cows, dogs, cats, monkeys, elephants, dolphins. Anyone who’s ever had a pet knows this.

Open AI will fall behind (if they aren’t already) long before AGI (which I predict comes in 2027) the one question is: who has or will take the crown? Anthropic seem to have the passion at the moment.

When it comes to doctors, AI will be a great help for doctors rather than replace them. As all of us have I am sure encountered, when you see a doctor they seem more preoccupied with getting rid of you as quickly as possible to see their next patient than spending much time on you. It feels more like a fast-food restaurant when you finally get to see your doctor. I fully agree that having AI look at my concerns will be far far better for patients. Heck, a simple Google search is sometimes far more helpful than seeing your doctor as they are so overworked that there is no way you will get the care you deserve under the current system. AI as a tool, in conjunction with your doctor, is a certainty for better health care.

Let's break this down into actionable steps:
    1. Explore the potential of spatial AI by learning more about World Labs and their work on large world models.
    2. Stay informed about the advancements of AI in healthcare, particularly its applications in diagnostics and personalized medicine.
    3. Embrace the rapid evolution of AI, understanding that its capabilities are scaling exponentially and will continue to shape the future.
    4. Consider how you would interact with AI agents and the potential benefits they offer in terms of task management and personalization.
    5. Experiment with AI-powered video tools like Runway's Gen 3 Alpha to unleash your creativity and explore new possibilities in content creation.

  22. @picksalot1

    October 8, 2024 at 12:06 am

"Sentience" can be measured, and comes in degrees. A species that has vision is more "sentient" because of that "sense". Consciousness is not dependent on the senses. Perception is dependent on the senses. When you close your eyes, you become less sentient, not less conscious.
