HOA's are pure scams! See documentaries and the articles on the history of HOAs. I know people who own multi-millionare dollar homes and their HOA fees are less than $100/year and they have absolutely NO PROBLEMS out their HOA, but the homes in the $200K-$600K range catch hell. Especially the people no little or no mortgage! Go Figure!

Imagine joining a HOA to help keep the property values up and it turns out the fact that you have an HOA lowers the value of your property and no one want to buy you house because of the HOA

When you want to live in a neighborhood or apartment complex with an HOA, it’s best to just rent a property there and move out in case the HOA policies become too restrictive and burdensome.

I bought a home seven years ago in a HOA and my fee is $250 per year and that is to cover the cost of cutting grass in our common areas and concrete sidewalks that crack. Other than the letter we receive at the end of the year, I've never heard from the board. I guess we have awesome board members. These stories are insane!

I feel pretty fortunate to live in an HOA area that isn’t crazy. I’ve lived in my place for two years and the only time I’ve ever heard anything out of them is when I left my trashcan out for several days on the curb. My fees actually went down this year as well. Hopefully this luck contains.

Sounds like an episode of the X-files called Arcadia, where neighbors disappear if they break CCNR rules by adding or fixing their lawns with reflecting pools or lawn decorations just to make it more pleasing to the eye.
