Gov. Spencer Cox On Why Charlie Kirk’s Assassination Made Him Finish His Book | The Daily Show

The Daily Show | September 9, 2026

Republican Governor Spencer Cox joins Jon Stewart to discuss his new book, “Off Ramp: How to Be a Peacemaker in an Age of Contempt,” and reveals how the assassination of Charlie Kirk in his home state of Utah pushed him to finish writing it. Gov. Cox believes genuine, good-faith debate is the only way out of America’s polarization crisis and explains how Utah’s handling of religious freedom and LGBTQ+ rights shows that opposing sides can find common ground. Jon debates the governor over whether the solution to America’s polarization starts with individuals talking to each other or with the system itself changing first. #DailyShow #CharlieKirk #Utah #Polarization

You defunded and mandated the removal of the "liberal" arts classes like critical thinking and logic in our educataion system including at the state university level. You are also mandating that my children now receive religious education in public school. I wish you could actually be honest for once.

So much for this guy's honesty. Article from MARCH OF 2025 (early in Trump's second term):

"Feds pause $50 million Biden-era investment in Great Salt Lake"

"In December [of 2024–during Biden's term], the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation announced the largest ever federal investment in the Great Salt Lake, awarding Utah $50 million to go toward habitat restoration and securing more water to flow to the lake.

"It was widely celebrated among Utah’s leaders. But state officials now say that funding has been paused.

“We’re still working with our partners in the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, and trying to figure things out from a federal level on what goes, what stops. Right now, as they figure that out, we’re on a temporary pause,” said Brian Steed, the state’s Great Salt Lake Commissioner.

"The agency’s commissioner and Biden appointee Camille Calimlim Touton stood alongside Steed and other state officials on Dec. 2 to announce the $50 million package, which stems from the Inflation Reduction Act."

Quite rich for Spencer to decry the gamification of society and reduction in socialization due to AI and online activity when he was such a supporter of the mega data center next to the Great Salt Lake.

How can you have been alive and aware of US politics and media the last 30 years and think "both sides are the same" regarding this? See how Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, conservative media, etc treated Democrats and liberals

I stopped talking to family who consistently defend and vote for Trump because there have to be consequences for these heinous actions. And how I interact with them is the only consequences I control.

As of right now, The Trump Administration has not given the State of Utah a billion dollars to save the Great Salt Lake. It would be really nice to see happen, but I'm not holding my breath.

I think healthy debate is actually the most important thing of all. And i think we need to spin it to be a positive to lose an argument. The only person who truly gains anything from an argument is the person who learns something new. The person who ends up being right gains nothing but pride. Their knowledge has not increased, they have no new information. The person who "loses" an argument becomes more informed.

Typical GQP Magat. His words are so empty. Magats that I have chosen to ignore have earned from me based on what's currently going in my country. I have lost ALL patience with these people, family and friends are no longer family and friends to me because they have been brainwashed by a disgraced reality TV star. I literally have no time for any of them. It's that simple.👎
