ABOUT PRINCE
Prince was a groundbreaking singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist whose genre-defying music reshaped pop, funk, rock, and R&B. Known for hits like Purple Rain, When Doves Cry, and Kiss, Prince became a global icon for his flamboyant style, virtuosic musicianship, and fearless independence. Over his four-decade career, he sold more than 150 million records, won seven Grammy Awards, and pioneered the Minneapolis sound—a fusion of funk, synth-pop, and soul. Beyond his chart-topping success, Prince’s fight for artist ownership and creative freedom cemented his legacy as one of the most influential musicians in history.

ABOUT MICHAEL JACKSON
Michael Jackson was born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana, and began his music career at a young age as the lead singer of the Jackson 5, a Motown group formed with his brothers. His solo career took off in the late 1970s, and he became a global superstar in the 1980s with the release of Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad. Thriller remains the best-selling album of all time. Jackson was not only known for his powerful voice and genre-blending music, but also for his innovative music videos and signature dance moves, such as the moonwalk. He broke racial barriers on MTV, set new standards for pop performance, and influenced countless artists across generations. His humanitarian efforts and global reach earned him numerous awards and honors throughout his career.

ABOUT MADONNA
Madonna, often called the “Queen of Pop,” is one of the most influential and best-selling artists in music history. Since rising to stardom in the early 1980s with groundbreaking hits like Holiday, Like a Virgin, and Material Girl, she has redefined what it means to be a global superstar. With her fearless ability to reinvent her image and sound, Madonna has consistently set trends in pop music, fashion, and performance, influencing countless artists across genres. Her unique blend of provocative artistry and catchy, chart-topping singles established her as a cultural icon whose reach extends far beyond the music industry.

Dissing Prince's political Side let's me know, Ur Not even a quarter of Our age, but that Your Gen is shamelessly acting like U Had been there, or do have the sole license to judge EVERYTHING and their momma….

Not only is your editing and research soo entertaining- it's your INCREDIBLE ABILITY TO MAKE ME LAUGH OUT LOUD OVER AND OVER AGAIN which will make you a forever successful youtuber and of course prompted my hitting the subscribe button.

PS. Prince's Party Man from the Batman soundtrack is such a jam too few people know about

"Prince the album gave us two solid R&B hits…"

Nope. "I Wanna Be Your Lover" was a big pop radio hit, went to like #12 on the Billboard Top 40…so it was far more than just a "solid R&B hit." In fact, it was the success on the pop charts that lead to him being on American Bandstand. Also, that wasn't Vanity 6 in Purple Rain, that was Appolonia 6.

yikes! I'm a huge Prince fan, but 90''s Prince was grotesque, why spend so much time on it. Like pouring salt on a wound. Meanwhile Madonna rules the 90's. Sad seeing Prince not grow up while Madonna thrived. Comparativly, MJ never grew up, Prince had an arrested development and Madano was the first to grow up. Prince eventually did and rocked the 2000's. Sadly MJ never did.

as a long time fan who was already put off by the thumbnail/title shenanigans but accepted them as "playing the algorithm game", this newest change is one i just can't stand by. i've watched all three of these videos before, both separately and in this compilation, and i know for a fact that calling this a "documentary" on the "pop rivalry that defined the 1980s" is extremely misleading, and (personally) reaches the point of being an outright lie about the contents of the video. i know the algorithm is brutal and that playing its game helps more people see the videos, but at this point it's become straight up clickbait and that's just something i can't accept from someone i used to admire in the music discussion sphere.

ill talk about it here vs the original video because why not?

i remember the day prince passed away. i was with my mom after we dropped off her grandkids at school and i was next. on the way back, the radio station that we had on broke the news and i remember my mom being Heartbroken. like tearing up heart broken. i was too young to know who prince was, i was barely 12, but after the radio host broke the news they played purple rain and i remember my mom singing along to it. to this day, she will still sing it when she gets hit with personal news or when she cleans. along with redbone by childish gambino and a few tupac songs, purple rain is one of her favorite songs so it had a special place in my heart. its going to be 10 years in a couple months since his passing and it still feels surreal.
also thank you for compiling these videos together! DDD is one of the few if not only series of videos i will share immediately with my friends who dont know much about music history because you are incredibly thorough with your research and honest with your takes. youre an incredibly open minded individual it truly astonishes me

1:33:37 I hope if/when he does a Katy Perry DDD he's forced to review her MTV Unplugged because for SOME REASON that is considered a studio album even though it's literally not.
(I actually had a fight with someone on Wikipedia about this that got escalated to Wikipedia court and they ruled in his favor)
