Thankfully nat geo isn't the DNR and you can disregard anything they have to say about conservation since it varies massively state to state let alone countries. If you don't think culling is conservation your not a conservationist. If you disagree please, tell me how you deal with animals infected with prions like chronic wasting disease? That right you kill the infected and drop the population so it reduces contact see Pennsylvania and ohio deer diseases and the disaster that has become. Lotta opinions by folks that haven't spent enough time in the woods to know what the fuck they are talking about. Also for reference im not some random hunter I've studied biology and mycology as well my partner is an environmental scientist. I'm gunna real with you guys it's time to grow up, most of those animals are going to die deaths that you frankly can't imagine unless you Have seen an animal eaten alive in person.

On lions pulling people out of huts; people who wonder why we have a weird "irrational" phobia for having one foot uncovered at the end of bed have never had cats. They will grab that foot, and they can be the nicest, most well-behaved housecat, but they will use claws and teeth. And we as a species grew up in the habitat of some much bigger kitties. It is not irrational.

If you hunt for sport, may an animal on this list finds your tent. If you hunt for food, may you reach your limit. Trophy hunters are the worst of us.

My uncle once shot an elephant in Africa, but he couldn't remove the tusks. I told him he should have shot one in Alabama, where the Tuscaloosa.

I once saw a brilliant cartoon in The New Yorker. A man walks into the lobby of his apartment building and sees an elephant waiting for him there. The elephant says, "Hello, Mr Smith. Remember me? Kenya.1974. A long time ago, you say? Why, yes. Yes it was. But, you see, Mr Smith….an elephant never forgets."

You can say that about a lot of sports. Running didn’t used to be a sport. Fighting didn’t used to be a sport.

i call bullsh!t on big game hunting, but in canada bison are farmed all over the place because it tastes better and its healthier
so thats one of those things where its definitely weird that your slaughtering an endangered species, but at the same time its not endangered because theyre being bred to slaughter so theres alot of them
kind of like how theres more tigers being kept as pets then there are tigers in the wild
if its crazy and it works its not crazy i guess

I'm a bit f**king tired of the trope that humans are the most dangerous animal.. or male homo sapiens since we've completely forgotten that "man" from ancient times was made by humans. Anyway… the Sundarbans tiger in Bangladesh kills an average of 5 people per individual during its lifetime… that is recorded. The numbers are probably higher since many who are taken by tigers are never found. NO other species of animal or insect comes close to this as a species, or subspecies. So, let's not pretend that this is a competition… if you come face to face with a Sundarbans tiger it is probably your last day on earth, while at the same time you pass a million people when you walk through the manhattan, and you are relatively safe… millions of people do it every day.

Here right after a small herd of forest elephants killed a "big game hunter" (who was hunting an extremely rare antelope that lived in the same forest). Elephants got the "trophy" that time!

Humans: kill 5.000.000.000 animals each day.
Also humans: Oh my god, crocs kill 3 people per day? That's insane!

The majority of hunting is ABSOLUTELY not a sport. Most hunters in the US literally feed their families with the meat they harvest during hunting.

I’m from South Africa. The big 5 aren’t the top 5 animals to hunt, but to spot. If you see the big 5 whilst game watching, that’s a good day. But it’s certainly not hunting related. We loathe game hunters, in fact if we could round them all up and do a Predator type hunt, I’d be up for that. Absolute scum of the earth

Hunting is NOT a sport. That is sick. If you don't eat it, you shouldn’t kill it.

"If [the bear is] black, fight back. If it's brown, lie down. If it's white, good night." Some people will say this is a myth, but hunters, hikers, and zookeepers will absolutely vouch for it. Black bears will scavenge and eat already dead things; black bears just want the path of least resistance to their next meal. Brown/grizzly bears do NOT scavenge; They're more likely to consider a carcass rotten and pass it up in favor of recently caught salmon, fresh hunted deer, etc. They want the fight, because they won't get sick if they just caught and killed it. Polar bears, however, don't have options. When they find something they can eat, like a seal, a fish, or a human, they kill it, because they have to eat. In the arctic, food is pretty damn rare. So, if you encounter a polar bear, you're f*cked. MF gotta eat. Run, hide, and/or pray. Only a miracle could save you now.
