The oil pellets didn't get rid of the bear (he kept coming back). In the end, they harassed the bear just to get the bear out of the space while they put down shock mats, aka "unwelcome mats". It gives the bear an unpleasant sting if he touches it, preventing him from taking the time to squeeze into and out of that tiny hole to get to the crawl space. I think they should have also found a place that bear could safely stay though. He may well be in someone else's house right now.

Yes, this is normal behavior for turkeys. With birds, you generally avoid the whole thing. The mouth is a staby weapon, the talons have slashing and squeezing action, and the wings are surprisingly effective bludgeons. When larger birds fly (thank goodness turkeys can't fly), they've been known to hit some of their targets hard enough to knock them out. At least one goose has marked a human. Really the place you want to aim for when fighting with a bird is the inside of a car or house. Don't let them follow you in.
