The Autumn of 1888 is known as the Autumn of Terror in London. Because over three months, from August to November, some of the most notorious murders in history took place in the poverty-stricken Whitechapel district. The culprit – the infamous Jack the Ripper.
The identity of Jack the Ripper is a rabbit hole like no other, there are countless suspects, none of which fit perfectly. But the general consensus among Ripperologists has clustered around one person – and there may be some DNA evidence to back it up.

A lot of experts have pointed out that the DNA is useless. There is no proof of ownership of items that were tested which is where the first major hurdle arises. The second is that any items tested for DNA have been handled and stored incorrectly and would have no workable DNA on them. Take the DNA away, which was commissioned by a swindler who was trying to sell his own book, then the profiles do not match him at all.

I can't help but wonder if any of the non-canonical murders in The White Chapel Files were crimes committed by someone who had always wanted to do something horrific like that and took a risk to get their thrill while people were focused on someone else.
As far as who the culprit was, it's so unlikely that anything conclusive will ever emerge that the only real fun to be had is in coming up with wacky theories.
For example, Bram Stoker published Dracula in 1897, just a few years after the White Chapel Murders ended… I'm sure someone, somewhere could do something with that.

i've been behind the Kosminski theory for about a decade.Obviusly based on other people's research, but the case for his guilt has been made quite a bit, and he just seems to fit the best. The mustache, the leather apron, the butcher background, age, mental illness, address, timeline of his incarceration, etc. all appear to fit better than anyone else in the conversation. Even his being described as a "foriegner" which i hear was london speak for jewish at the time, fits the "jews are the men that will not be blamed for nothing" evidence. Anyway, great stuff, as always, and thanks.

The Swanson Marginalia gives you most everything you need. Kosminski fit all the eyewitness descriptions and everything we have since learned about serial murderers. Recommended: "Jack the Ripper and the Case for Scotland Yard's Prime Suspect" by Robert House. Just consider: within six weeks of the murder of Mary Kelly, all additional police assistance to Whitechapel was stood down, yet there had been intervals longer than six weeks between Ripper murders before. What does that tell us? They had him, whoever he was.

Two things I learned from this video: 1) We haven't really made any progress in the Jack the Ripper case. 2) Joe Scott will continue to disappoint me no matter how many chances I give him. Joe that's a cool poster over your right shoulder but that's not enuff anymore… I think we're breaking up…

What's annoying is that a lot of 'Ripperologists' will try to debate that Kosminski was not The Ripper mainly because they all have their own theory that they want to be true so will always argue to keep the mystery alive

Around the 17:30 mark you mention how did someone not get noticed. I find this particularly interesting because wouldn’t the killer have been covered in blood? Especially after being as brutal and graphic as he was. I find it hard to believe he would’ve been able to keep clean…. Or whatever was deemed “clean” in that area and time at least he would’ve had a certain odor…. Not like other odors commonly smelled in the area???

There's a great novel by Felix Palma that involves the fifth canonical murder— seeing this video shows me how carefully Palma researched Jack the Ripper. The novel is called The Map of Time. It's awesome (and completely exuberantly fictional: the time travel is done very very well, it's not your usual corny time travel tale. It's more mystery & romance & the mystery of being human (and the mystery of causality too, deftly handled). Palma is a master author). I won't tell you who Palma casts as Jack the Ripper, that would spoil the story!
As for real life, you've convinced me about Kosminski. This whole Whitechapel thing is simultaneously repellent and intriguing… may we never create a Whitechapel again…
