It sounds like a superpower you might find in a comic book, but people who can’t feel pain suffer more than you think. It’s a condition called Congenital Insensitivity To Pain, (CIP) and in this video, I take a look at some examples of people who have this condition, and how they might help save thousands of lives.

You should do a video on the differences in pain perception between neurotypical and neurodivergent people. For example, I was trimming branches from trees and mulching them. I came in with scratches and cuts all over my legs and arms. I did not notice any of these injuries while they were happening. But, if my shoes are not the same tightness, then I can focus on nothing else. There are clearly sensory and perception differences between NT and ND people.

OH MY GOD— the explanation at 15:00 regarding the natural opiods and pain actually is incredible. I take a low dose of naltrexone which was made as an opioid receptor inhibitor to help people overcome addiction, but in doses under 9mg its shown to block inflammation signals so its used for a lot of people with chronic illnesses like fibromyalgia. supposedly no one seems to fully know why it works like that but if theres already a relationship between pain and natural opioid production….gosh i love science so much

I am a recipient and survivor of:
    – 1x root canal and the exposed nerve/nerve pain that precedes that
    – 2x tooth extractions (surgical)
    – 2x tooth implants

There are few things as painful as an infected tooth 🄓

This is shown in the TV show Haven- based on a Steven King novel. One of the main characters, Nathan, basically has this and its shown throughout the show. It is an interesting side plot to the show.

There is a woman with this condition in the city I live, she is in a wheelchair, has no legs, and is missing every teeth but one.

Amen brother. Late puberty for me, there was like, a year where I dreaded canker sores. Easily a half dozen of them at a time. I had to talk like a 16th century British aristocrat. Thankfully, I’ve not had one in 20 years, but I know the pain — I’ll keep your product in the back of my head to recommend. (Especially if I time travel and bump into 15-year-old me.)

19:54 I think that's pretty good, because even if you don't feel pain, using at this stuff at least daily helps you to identify something is wrong in your body, and not wait 8 months until you see the doctor.

I just want to add a comment about the tooth pain being awful. I've had chronic tooth infections due to being very poor and no access to a lot of healthcare. I have also dealt with a rare brain condition that gives me a small headache 100% of the time and about 15 times a day. It goes up to a 10/10 pain where I am begging for everything to just end already. I underwent a surgery back in 2020 that involved breaking my neck and cutting off part of my brain and breaking off part of my skull and C1 and C2. I would rather have that entire brain surgery done again even though it didn't help, and deal with these headaches and those horrible 10/10 pains I get throughout the day than ever have a single tooth infection ever again.

5:34 I had double ear infections a few summers ago omfgggggggggggggg 😣😣😣😣😣😣😣 There were like 7?ish neighbourhood kids who were giggling and chatting and playing on the trampoline in my neighbour's yard, just usual preteen summer break stuff, but they were riiiiight next (UK terraced housing. If I wanted to [I do not] I could spit out my bedroom window and have it land in my neighbours yard if I angled it right. These houses are so close, and the walls are paper thin. I can hear my neighbours fart. I could join in on their phone conversations. The walls are so. Freaking. THIN.) to my bedroom window. It was the middle of the day, and I was trying to sleep. Pain meds had either worn off, or not kicked in yet (ahhhh that sweet hell hole between doses šŸ‘ŒšŸ‘ŒšŸ¤ŒšŸ¤Œ) and I was exhausted and I could not get to sleep for the kids being kids. I lay there and steamed for like 15 minutes, before I'd finally had enough and opened my bedroom window and yelled at these kids to please shut up, I have double ear infections, I'm in huge pain, and I'm trying to sleep. Iiiiiiiiii am not proud of it. 😬😬🫣😰 But I had to. They did quieten down, and I did get some sleep.
A couple of those families moved out (not because of me šŸ˜…šŸ˜…šŸ˜…) and I changed how I shower so haven't had an ear infection in a couple of years. Knock on wood it stays that way. Ear infections are a different beast, man. You know tooth infections are gonna be solved if the issue causing it is fixed. You can just not chew for a bit if needs be. Ya can't just not hear (if you have functional ears). I hate ear infections. Worst thing ever. Wdym my skull is throbbing??????? Gross. Ew. No. Never again. PLEASE.

4:34 developing your own vitamin formula is actually such a huge flex. I have these canker sores from time to time (especially when I take too much carbonated drinks) and they’re incredible painful. And for some reason there’s little to no research/medication for them.

Pain is basically a health bar but less precise. Just because you are unable to see it doesn’t mean you are invincible.

In other words, pain is a symptom of injury. Ignoring the symptoms doesn’t make the issue go away.

Of all the videos to make a potential discovery about my childhood and my body/life, this was the furthest from my mind right up until you started describing your ulcers. I've always known them as "canker sores" which was seemingly unknown to anyone I talked to about it, constantly having to explain its not a cold sore its not herpes yadda yadda. Much the same, this was something that plagued my childhood, during certain spans of time I would go zero days without at least 1 if not 2 sores in the active and painful phase (with the white-ish hole in the gum and all that) and so I just got…very familiar with the whole cycle of those sores.

Suffice it to say I have a doctor's visit to make, and you might have a new customer soon, and if it does like advertised then you are literally my hero.

Joe I thank you for sharing your pain I totally get that you didn't have to do that but I understand growing up I hated eating I was so skinny and malnutritioned because I absolutely hated to eat I was so looking forward to the future when we were going to have space sticks and that's all you had to worry about was just taking a pill or eating this little stick and you were full that never happened well I'm older now and I've had an abscess in my tooth I got an infection and it was excruciating but let me just say I have experience what's called diverticulitis and that's an abscess in your lower intestines I was literally screaming in pain that was so awful so yeah Pain's a good thing lets us know when things are going south so thank you so much for sharing God bless you

Imagine being a professional wrestler you just feel no pain so you’ll keep on going until you’re dead until you arm ripped off

I once knew a man who felt no pain. It wasn't from birth though. He fell, head first, twenty feet, into concrete at 3 years old and shattered his skull. Somehow he survived but after that he could no longer feel pain. Additionally his personality was drastically different. He didn't really process emotions in the same way. He still had emotions. Just kind of muted emotions. He wasn't very empathetic. But he was a great hang. He described his medical records as binders that were 2 feet tall full of all the crazy things he had survived. Reportedly, everytime he went to a doctor and they looked at his medical history, they would ask the same thing, "How are you alive?" I got to see it in action. He really didn't feel pain. He had issues with memory but to be fair he smoked a looooot of weed and had been since the age of 9, all the way to when I met him in his late 20s, early 30s. Dude was tough as nails and would punch metal for fun. We used to have contests, where we punched each other in the arm to see who tapped out first. Needless to say, I never won and he never tapped out. I knew him for a couple years. No idea where he is now but I'll never forget him. One of the most interesting people I've ever met.

I suffer from mouth ulcers too. I can attest to the pain. I also get cold sores(herp) since my earliest days. It was worst as a kid.

when I got my wisdom teeth out, my mouth was so numb that I ended up chewing on my lower lip the entire drive home (3.5 hrs) and it was swollen for a week. I could feel the nerves and blood vessels. It was awful

13:59 I remember one time in high school, we all went to the gym for some sort of school event that was happening, and a kid I had never met before, leans over my shoulder from behind me, and whispers in my ear ā€œdid you know the skin on your elbow is called the weenus?ā€ I just turned and looked at him with the blankest stare, I have never been so confused in my life as I was in that moment. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Well Joe, a drunk driver hit me head on when I was 16 and broke both my femurs, as well as sent them both through my pelvis…

You’d think that would be the worse pain ever felt right? Well you’d be wrong. I crush my finger mountain biking a year later which wasn’t so bad, except just about when my finger specialist guy finished stitching the thing back together in hopes I’d get to keep that finger tip. I’m not sure if he hit a nerve or what, but over about ten seconds the pain went from almost nothing to if I had dunked the thing in a vat of acid and it was dissolving. That was the worst.

I think my pelvis and femurs hurt so much my body almost had a near trauma response to it, when it got bad I’d just almost instantly go into shock. That’s what would happen the first few times they tried to get me walking again, swing my legs off the bed, puke and nearly pass out. But that pinky though… dayum that hurt.
