Also my local coffee shop has bright blue walls with stars and neon solar system planets a giant glowing piano on the floor astronaut mirror and a BUNCH of space photos

The yellowing is so true. I'm 41 and following eye surgery a couple of years ago i got a cataract. I got it removed earlier this year and everything is BRIGHT. My "healthy" eye makes life look like there's a yellow ochre wash over everything, while my cataract eye is pingin bright colour.

18:26 on the subject of movies: i think this is why the recent Project Hail Mary movie made such a huge splash, because it’s BRIGHT and it’s COLORFUL and it’s MADE WITH PRACTICAL EFFECTS – obviously not entirely but way way more than typical directors would in today’s current climate

I'm laughing at the sheer stupidity in this video (and the videos with the same theme) and its comment section.

This video triggers hateful old heads who yearns for something which has never existed: older and better times without looking at the root causes.

There are wars, climate and environmental crisis, pandemics, economical instabilities, traditional jobs not paid enough, middle class disappearing, ordinary people not being able to afford even a single pair of socks, democracy, freedoms and human rights thrown into the trash, division based on generations, religion, politics and race, political systems of every country being a lie, discrimination and hate towards everybody who isn't white, male, rich, heterosexual and adult, intolerance towards different opinions, education and art falling out of favor, stupid people being famous and rich, societal decay and the concern for future.

While you are busy thinking their everything is looking boring and simple and lost their identity. Keep whining, the collapse is near!

The new Superman definitely had actual color gradient. The underlying theme behind everything being boring and colorless is that selling individuality to everyone requires that everything looks as “standard” as possible.

i have a very strict rule in my home that says if it can be cute instead of boring and bland, it’s going to be. i don’t care what it is. spoon rest? it’s a little pink bear. hammer? bright blue. rugs? all of them have cats on them. our bed? halloween blankets year round. towels? they’ve got bunnies or hearts or dinosaurs. my kitchen utensil holder is a strawberry. even our reusable straws are sparkly and colorful. i’m 33. and i will never change. my husband and i have always had such a fun, happy home.

i might not be able to change the world outside of my home to make it less boring, but i refuse to live in a home without a little stuffed charmander in my kitchen.

Also because we constantly are bombarded by content. What was once enjoyable does not feel as enjoyable. It’s not like we have unlimited dopamine in a day.

On the movie convo, I always loved watching older, low budget, “terrible” movies because it usually was still a showcase of what someone with a tiny budget can still do with a creative vision. And also if it was truly terrible you’d sit there and have a funny moment of like “how was this movie released? lol” but now I literally feel that way after watching the highest budget movies of today…

A lot of the buildings are also basic/grey/boring because so many places close and open so often that it's cheaper and easier to have every place look the same so they don't have to rebuild.

Talking about consoles, I still get impressed by xbox kinect and wii 1. Bluetooth is now commonplace at best but those things still feel like some kind of witchcraft. Cool asf

Even game consoles can't escape. It feels like most launch consoles now are either black, white, or gray. If you want more colorful options you gotta hope for more color variants to come out soon, buy special edition versions that cost way more, or spend $60+ on more colorful controllers if they even make them.

The switch doesn't even have colorful themes, just light and dark mode. I was really sad about that when I first got a switch after mostly playing on my 3ds, I love all the different 3ds themes. I love that you can set your xbox one background to a screenshot you take in a game. Where's the whimsy 🫩

I am 66 and grew up in the 70s so yeah, there was color in my life. The kitchen was Pumpkin Orange. The livingroom was mostly windows so color was brought in with the furniture, gold couches, rust colored chairs, and of course avocado green. My mom crocheted a shag rug that was orange, pink, peach and red. My bedroom was pink, then lavender. Color was everywhere in the 70s. Our clothes, totebags, umbrellas and cars. My aunt's car was turquoise inside and out. Definitely noticeable. My first car in the 80s was beige. I once spent 45 minutes looking for it in a parking lot, it looked like every other beige car.
I went through the color phases as I grew up and moved away. There was the colonial blue and mauve of the early 90s into the 2000. When I renovated a little cottage in 2010, I went pastel. Through the years, as I repainted the cottage, every room is brighter with more of a jewel tone. Dusty pinks for the bedrooms. Blue for a tiny bathroom and a yellow kitchen named Sunny Days which has an orange under tone. I brought in the oranges, yellows, sage and jadite greens. It is cherry, cozy and full of warmth. A hug and balm for the soul. It helps that I have lots of vintage furniture. But I also have new items or re- perposed items.
I find beige, grays, white and black cold and hollow. The straight angles and lack of soft curves, worn woods and beautiful patinas just makes me sad. There is no thought to the design, no whimsy, no fun, no sense that someone loved this item before me and it has stood the test of time. It is design for an instant gratification society. That is heartbreaking.
