Avatar 4 And 5 Are In Even More Trouble Than We Thought

Looper | May 15, 2026

A 90-minute “Avatar” movie? It’s not as impossible as you might think. “Avatar 4” and “5” are years away, but there’s already reason to worry that they might not be as mind-blowing as the first three.

I'll freely admit that I've never seen any of the other movies besides the first one, and I've no particular interest in seeing them.
Technically it was a great movie. Storywise… not so much.
A lot of people are going to get pretty p-ed off by this comment, but…. IMHO, it was just another 'white savior' story, with everything else revolving around that basic plot element.

These movies need to be cheaper and definitely shorter. That last one barely moved the needle story-wise, despite being over three hours. I’m not even going to bother with 4 and 5 in the theater; I’ll wait for Disney+.

The awe factor in spectacle has diminishing returns. I want some deep intrinsic story now. Pandora is boring. I want more scenes in space and on a future earth.

I stll want to see far more of Jake Sully in Avatar 4 and I hope he doesn´t die until Avatar 5, IF James Cameron really has to kill him. I want to see far more depth on Neytiri and meeting a new human character she doesn't trust that is not Norm or Max. Far more of the earth path in the show of deep mud, arid lands, covered in snow, the ash region and lava flowing.

I love the AVENGERS, but I am more interested to see Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 than any MCU project. Clearly this franchise it´s more discussed and controversial and especially full of potential. I want to see far more human allies and antagonists, as well as Na´Vi who are friendly and even more interesting if they are foes and rivals.

No Avatar film should be less than 155 minutes long. James Cameron can do this for the theatrical release and also give us an extended version for the Blu-Ray and get away with it. In my case, I want Avatar 4 to be 185 minutes long and Avatar 5 to reach the 200 minutes long.

People get burnt out after 3 seasons of a tv show, the attention span to have high demand for these films or any is limited. I think 3 is good, wait 10 years release another 3 wait 15 years and release another 3. That’s kind of how another franchise was able to survive. Let the audience miss you

Good gracious…why is anybody paying attention to people who have NEVER created anything, let alone multiple successful top-grossing billion dollar movies? What are people STILL doubting James Cameron?
