The problem is very simple: them kids.
For every adult who’s angry about the Pokémon games quality, there are like 10 kids who are gonna play it no matter what. Because when you’re a kid EVERY game feels incredible. And of course you don’t have enough experience to compare it to old games. And Game Freak knows that. They’re expoloiting the kids.

To be fair to game freak… Nintendo hasn't made a visually acceptable game since the 80s 😂. Their consoles are poorly made and they can't even keep their shop running. The whole company is a crap pie we shouldn't be supporting. At least when I spend an ungodly amount on a controller for any other consoles I can rely on them lasting more than a month

I'm obviously super late, but its actually worth noting, the quality… honestly hasn't dropped THAT much. Its mainly shifted, and become more obvious due to changes in the overall scope and scale of game design. Red and Blue were DISASTERS if you actually look under the hood. People to this day are actually pretty shocked that those games even function because the code is a baffling and confusing nightmare, and there are a number of very confusing ways to absolutely destroy those games, even without actually intending to do so.
Gamefreak has always been kind of a disaster of a company in terms of the technical side of things. They happened to have one REALLY good idea and they just kinda ran with it. There was never any actual reason for them to become particularly adept at the technical side, because the games sold like hotcakes anyways.

I know this is an old video but….
Im an old man (late 30s) and pkmn hit the states when i was the perfect age. Over yhe years i have taken the game and TCG pretty seriously, doing both vcg and tcg events and tourney as much as i could. I will admit as well, i was pretty good. It really was my fallback hobby- no matter where i was in life, i would at least be acitvely paying attn to and playing when, where and however i could.
That said, the tvg and series as a whole let me down too many times (when wizards stopped making the game, i quite after nintendos 2nd cycle. I quit the videos games altogether after playing through sword and shield. It just wasnt……good at all and i was already disappoint by sun and moon.
Pkmn was such a HUGE part of my development and how i now approach hobbys and interests. It kept my brain alive after being pulled out of school in 9th grade, it kept me from being too lonely as well. That said, i think its a shell of its former self. I could have nostalgia pouring its tea straight down my throat but besides 2 or 3 things from sun and moon/swrd&shld, pkmn is a bummer now and maybe its been enoigh time for adults to move on and let the kids have at it

New pokemon game just came out. Ik this didnt get as many views but it is a good hot take that's been vindicated by a recent leak that shows the budget for Scarlet Violet is super low for the industry.

first things first lets go eevee and lets go pikachu were the first nintendo switch games in pokemon they are part of gen 7 just like sun, moon, ultra sun, and ultra moon. Whereas sword and shield are a part of gen 8 which also includes legends arceus. pokemon is a franchise meant for having fun its never been the best graphically, and replay ability doesn't equal a game being a peak masterpiece people replay through sword and shield, the auras games, and tons of other pokemon games not because they are the best games available but because they are fun

Your capybara/chicken comment made me realize how much Pokémon sucks now. There’s a damn set of keys as a Pokémon. There’s a damn teapot as a Pokémon. They used to base it off of real animals and now they don’t which is such a shame when (esp gen 1 players) loved the naturalistic and almost “Steve Irwin” approach to the creatures. A Pokédex which was like an encyclopedia with stickers and stamps to congratulate you for your curiosity was such a cool concept to me, both now and as a kid.
Like pikachu being lowkey named after rodents native to Machu Picchu made me remember that landmark for life. The rodents ~fun fact~ are kinda yellow cause of the dirt nearby… that’s so cool.
Why not take a biological approach because nature is so alien and weird sometimes, instead of literal trash ideas (see: trubbish and garbodor)
I feel like the devs literally sat in a room trying to think of new Pokémon and someone said “I love lamp” and they said “write that down how many more do we have to put on this list?”

Graphically and in terms of performance, Scarlet and Violet are pretty bad.
In terms of actual gameplay, Scarlet and Violet are by far my favorite. I've got 350+ hours in Scarlet as opposed to 150 hours in Sword. It's easier than ever to make a Pokemon competitive, having an ATV lizard that can swim and jump and fly is super fun to ride versus biking everywhere, the story is the best they've ever had with the most likeable NPCs in the series, breeding Pokémon is thankfully nearly obsolete (good riddance!), etc.
I'd like the next games to look and perform better, but if I had to choose between good graphics and performance or all the quality of life improvements Scarlet and Violet introduced I'd rather have the latter.

As someone who grew up just in general enjoying the monster collecting genre, ive been really happy with the digimon games recently. Like digimon cyber sleuth was released like 10 years ago originally for the ps vita and it still looks better than scarlet and violet imo. It has a great story (tho it kinda drags at the beginning) and is like 60 bucks with the sequel that came out a year later (it also goes into sale unlike pokemon games)
Also digimon world next order which is a open world game. Its more of a caretaking sim when it comes to the digimon and it can be grindy but so far i really enjoyed it. Im happy i picked the games up as theyre really good just on an general standpoint. Also yokai watch on the 3ds is pretty good (especially the second game) so if you have still one of those i would recommend getting it as emulating it can be pretty hard from what i heard bc it uses the Touchscreen allot

Im not a pokemon fan, nor do i think i ever will be. This is just so sad as a fellow gamer seeing this game franchise never change or develop in any way, shape, or form since the 90s. I hope they decide to change their ways and actually grow a pair and make some changes to the bland system that the game has had since the beginning not saying the system is bad just that it has been 30 years and no notable difference. It can only live off of die-hard fans for so long.

The game being unfinished also had a lot to do with Pokémon’s strict release schedule. They’ve always been releasing a mainline game every 3 years (for some reason).

When releasing Scarlet/Violet (and Sword/Shield too), GameFreak just said “It doesn’t matter how bad our games are, they’ll buy it regardless.” (Which I did)

The whole argument over dev time is what I disagree with, it's always been 3-4 (mostly 3) years between each new gen, that can't be disputed.
They however should have needed more time as things have gone into console gaming and 3d and HD and now potentially up to 4k, but the actual timeline never really got much shorter and the 3rd release just became a set of 2 games they charged for or DLC, both which probably required basically the same work as a 3rd version each gen.
