The funniest thing is how satanic panic frames Satanism as a cult rather than what it is which is an actual religion. And funnier still is that Satanism as a religion has strong and solid beliefs in self respect, self defense, protection of the innocent, avoiding unnecessary conflict, and other really sweet and common sense behaviors. Totally debunks the whole ‘sacrifices’ thing too. They don’t do that theyre actually super strongly against it 😂

as a massive metalhead who makes demon noises in their free time and has had a fair share of bad experiences with christianity, i really appreciate when people talk about this history because it isnt really something they talk about much in school but i think its pretty important to the history of our country. i know people always say this but it really is important to learn history so that we dont repeat it. because otherwise we get what is happening now where history almost exactly repeats itself but just in a different outfit. thank you for covering this!

Great job on this report, I had to hold back on my comments and watch the whole thing. I was there then, and I was one of their targets, even at age 12. I only missed seeing that first guy that became a comedian other than that. I was the kid with the D&D books. I had an 8 track tape of KISS Destroyer, (Knights in Service of Satan they called them, no swears mostly songs about rock and roll, partying and girls. so evil, well Gene actually is kinda evil…anyway), they went after music, they went after comic books, they went after D&D. (Specifically the book Deities and Demigods which included pretty much every Pagan Patheon and a Huge section of Judeo Christian Devils and Demons.) Not once do I remember them interviewing a gamer who could just tell them those are the guys we usually go and slay. I digress and I will again repeatedly…Now there are some perspectives that are absent here, largely because they were absent on mainstream media back then for the most part. I think the most notable by his absence for the most part was the mentioning of Anton LaVey the founder of the modern Satanic church. He might have been mentioned on talk shows by Glen Danzig or Peter Steel, maybe the two biggest critics of conservative christains of the time and poster boys for darkness. I read a little LaVey, it's actually nothing like the superstitious accusations. I'm not going to waste space going deeper on that. Either you are a superstitious christian who thinks they will be damned eternal for touching such a book, or you can read it for yourself. If you are open minded and just curious what might be going on in the actual Satanic Churches ideaology, check out LaVey's Satanic Bible, The Revolt of the Angels by Anatole France, Seven Sermons to the Dead by Carl Jung, and some general study of Gnostic Christianity. I am not a Satanist, so please spare me the damnations, I studied it, and I have even spoken with people who were serious about it. The actual secret truth under it all is that the majority of satanists back then were victims of child abuse from conservative christians. It's all just roleplaying vampires and witches wearing pentacles to ward off the christians. But if you are a Christian don't be too scared, black magic is not real and that "satanist" would probably be polite to you if you were polite to them.

Oh I just had a splash of this a couple weeks ago at work. Someone was protesting our mural outside because they deemed it satanic. We work at an art museum for families, everything on a mural has aliens, and fairytale creatures. We were called witches when we left, avoiding interaction with this guy, ignored him, but we could tell he was trying to get attention. He was definitely cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs, and had political/evangelical rhetoric blasting on a loud speaker an hour before we closed. 😐 Sure he is right to protest, but if he thinks what we're doing it's not for him that's okay, can just not go in. Go to church instead. It was also mother's Day so I'm guessing he doesn't have a whole lot going on, and was bored.
