Manufactured Consent
Coined by Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky, this term focuses on how mass media and institutional narrative framing are used to manipulate public opinion. While it doesn't always rely on an acute physical tragedy, it describes how a state can weaponize fear, threats, and selective information to make a population willingly agree to wars, surveillance, or policy changes.

The Shock Doctrine (Disaster Capitalism)
Coined by journalist and sociologist Naomi Klein, this is the most prominent academic and journalistic term for this phenomenon. It describes how tactical builders of power use the public disorientation following a collective trauma—like a natural disaster, economic collapse, war, or terrorist attack—to push through unpopular economic or social policies while the population is too shocked and focused on survival to resist.

Recaps like this make me consider the ethics of time travel, if you speak Star Trek, it helps. It would be hard for someone like me to not walk into NASA and give them a piece of my mind about their cavalier attitude it the face of their relevance to our survival and who’s gonna take over after they are minimized. However, what if NASA would have gotten worse? I’m saving up for a Delorean and I’ve got a down payment in on some Iranian Uranium so, we’ll see.

In 2004 Scott Peterson killed his pregnant wife in Modesto Ca. He had a girlfriend and at one point he claimed to have called her under the Eiffel Tower. For over 20 years everytime I see a picture, sketch, painting of that damn tower I say "There's Scott Peterson". That scumbag has been living rent free in my head.
