Every Placebo song is still good (especially "Scared of Girls"). Morrissey updated "walkman" to "iPod" decades ago; I admit I can't recall what the lyric he sings is, now.

A rel British/european cult band. Intense Post puck riffs. Amdrogeny, beauty. Songs about all the angst many people felt. I loved them from age 17 to 30. Im 41 now. Pre modern internet age.. they were fantastic

A song about casual sex, prostitution, drug use, crossdressing, getting drunk, gender confusion etc etc that somehow completely went over the heads of censorship.
Fking excellent.

Placebo are still sound amazing and Brian Molko's voice is epic

I was raised on a fairly healthy diet of rock with Placebo as a very large part of that.
Especially albums like "Meds", "Without You I'm Nothing" and "Sleeping with Ghosts"… There are very few bands that can pull off the degree of storytelling Placebo does and be able to alter their sonic styles to fit neatly with what they're trying to portray with every single track.
If you've not listened to their latest album "Never Let Me Go" by the way – you should. They've well and truly mastered the extremely rare dark art of not losing of what makes their music so distinctive while still being able to keep up with the changes that've been happening in the music industry since their prior releases.

I think in Big Mouth Strikes Again, Molko said "as her Mega Drive started to melt". That's what I hear anyway.

The first album with this track is the best one. The first three albums have notable singles, other than that I don't think I've heard of them since

Didn't Moloko remain ambiguous about his orientation, leading people to believe he was like maybe the gay side of androgenous, then he got married to his wife on the quiet. He played it that is he isn't he thnng. Liked him when guest on Nevermind the Buzzcocks, observant, funny, viscous. 2023 PM of Italy sued him for defamation after he called her a fascist rascist 😀

I don't think changing walkman to discman was exactly a leap of deep intelligence or anything. It's a nice but incredibly tiny change.

Went to see Placebo live a couple of years ago, always been a fan but had never seen them play live before, was really disappointed they didn't play Nancy boy, turns out apparently Brian hates it now, and feels it "represents an immature, less-developed period, with lyrics he now cringes at". I know that's their prerogative but feel like it was kinda selfish of them, it was their breakout hit and their most well known song and it's still a great tune. Imagine going to see the Darkness and them not play "I believe in a thing called love" !?

There's a quote from someone whose name escapes me – "If I wasn't gay I'd fancy Brian Molko"

I loved their album Meds – Follow the Cops Back Home – just a nice night time anthem about following the cops back home and robbing their houses.

I'm not a huge Placebo fan (like them though), but this song is an absolutely banger.

I love this song. I bought it on CD single at the time. And I was 13, and didn't have any money. When they were on top of the tops with this… It hit different shall we say. 1997 was a killer year for music.

I have found that placebo is one of the only 90s bands that’s held up to the span of time. I love them still as much as the first day I heard them. Other bands I loved more then I can’t listen to now as they just sound old
@bobbler42
January 27, 2026 at 8:11 pm
Saw them in Bristol in 2024. They played it, I'm pretty sure, though apparently they often don't. Or rarely do. Brian has a lot morehair nowadays. "Bionic" live slapped, too.

still a banger… that whole album still slaps
