I dunno. If you don't listen to any of it, it's just hoarding. I own a decent amount of records and used to dj and thinking "my daughter will have an awesome collection and will cherish it" but truthfully am I going to burden her with lugging this around. It's hard to build love around music that curses. So after many years of exposing her to music I like… Her and her friends love kpop.

Damn, that’s a dope Paris poster. Even in the Bay, he’s a super underrated legend. His conscious style was actually closer to what Kendrick was influenced by more so than Pac, I’d say. I don’t know if Kendrick was up on Paris, but after recently revisiting his catalog, it gave me Kendrick vibes but from the early 90s.

Still kick myself for not getting Dr Lecter when it dropped for Β£40. I was broke at the time. Should of just ate pasta for another month

β€œBe patient” is such solid advice. One of the most rewarding aspects of collecting vinyl is looking back and tracing the evolution of your musical taste alongside your own life. You start to see how certain records map to specific phases, places, and moments, and that connection becomes deeply personal. That kind of pleasure disappears if you speed-run through crates and drain your bank account.

In the end, building a collection is an act of curation. And curation is a creative process. The more I think about it, the more I see digging and collecting as a form of art in itself.

That Beastie Boys album is somehow way ahead of and also behind its time. Before the 33 1/3 LP was released albums were a collection of 78 RPM singles (the name β€œalbum” comes from it being like a photo album), but now you also have special releases like Gorillaz’ Song Machine coming out in the same way. Also a shoutout to Deerhoof’s La Isla Bonita which you could get as a book of flexidiscs.
