I had this procedure. It is a ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy. I was anesthetized so I “slept” through it. The stone fragments are collected after being blasted by the laser so I did not have to pass any (again, no pain). However, because the stone had been originally found stuck in my ureter I needed a stent (like a straw) inserted during the surgery to keep the irritated ureter from scarring closed. After 2 weeks it was removed, not under anesthetic, and I found that very frightening and painful. Some people have no problem with removing the stent but I would never do it again unless it was with anesthesia or heavily sedated. I
