My dad started smoking when he was 10 years old in 1943 and didn't stop until 1987. Lots of people smoked back then.

Times Square was not middle America. Movies had ratings which prevented minors from entering.

This video could be another hidden Watchmojo video for Gen-Xers like myself (who was born in the early 1970s, 1971 to be exact) who enjoy 70s nostalgia. Those were the good ol' days for Generation X! 🙂

Adult movies in theaters? Didn’t we already had the Motion Picture Association film rating system?🤔🎥

Wow. People back then sure had fun, didn't they? It's good that two or three of these are gone, but a lot of them were what made life truly great, like kids being able to run free. It was very good for them because it taught them independence, problem-solving, and lead them to countless fascinating discoveries. People nowadays are WAY too safety conscious, you just gotta let your kids run around and figure things out on their own. Stranger Danger in this day and age is recklessly exaggerated, surprisingly few kids actually do encounter bad strangers. Also, someone once said that back in the day, there weren't too many stupid kids, because all the toys killed off the stupid kids. Safety standards are just WAY TOO HIGH nowadays, dangers are just nature's way of thinning the herd. If the herd doesn't get thinned out, someone who shouldn't be alive will come into a position of power they were never meant to have…

Now here's an interesting question, "Should adult films make a comeback?"

Ooh I remember running in to get smokes for my mom. The first car I remember riding in was a 50s or 60s era Studebaker, the "seat belts" consisted of my grandma's arm across my chest when she tapped the brakes.

I always thought Red Ryder BB guns were something made up for A Christmas Story – until I saw one on the shelf of a store in 2025

Early 2000s still had the notion to go outside and play cause internet was stilll fairly new I mean it was out there but not like today and so I my bro and a neighbor would play outside we have to tell our mom first and she said we would have to get back by this time. So I wonder if anyone else was in the same ballpark of that time

Riding in the back of a pickup truck. As kids we did it with my uncle all of the time. Then when it started to have rules against it we’d lay in the truck bed so no one would see us. Someone had two seats in the back of theirs against the windows and I thought that was so cool!😎

Stranger danger warnings aren’t enough anymore. I’ve even heard of parents who were arrested because their children were seen walking around alone

ACK! We still have a problem with people smoking outside of the doors and windows. I can't stand having friends give me their used items like toys for my dogs. They're smokers and have no clue how badly these items smell. Or why I don't go and visit them very often. You haven't mentioned fake wood paneling or shag carpeting. We loved the smell of the old gasoline. They changed the formula so that it doesn't smell as good. The mimeograph fluid smelled good too. Carpets in the bathroom and foam rubber toilet seats.

What's a Disco Biscuit. It still is in Seattle on fist and 2nd avenue. BB guns are still given at Christmas. You're mispronouncing and misusing the word Scalding which is a burn you get from boiling water, not by touching high heated metal.

I was ages 9-18 in the 70s. I miss many of those things. While I'm glad to see some of these gone, many of these are ridiculous over generalizations and fear-mongering.
This is the first I've ever heard about the ridiculous "leaded gas leads to crime wave" theory.

My grandfather is an award winner producer from the 70s. He's done a few well known x films like "mother knows best" and "10 violent women". When Hollywood rebranded in the late 70s he was cancelled. Lots of great history tho! Lots of centerfolds in playboy too. I guess my grandma had a good eye for women. 😂

As a child and teenager in Australia in the 1970s, I remember my father driving the family the two hour drive from our home in Melbourne to our holiday flat while smoking roll-your-own fags with the car windows up, and persisting in smoking despite the protests of everybody else in the car.

9. They tried to bring back adult movie in theaters once, with Sausage Party.
7. The kids had it lucky back then, being able to leave the house and go on adventures, now we have to stay more at home with our families just so we'll be safe and not get into trouble. Starts to make home seem more like a prison these days now.
5. Now what are we suppose to do with kids who cause trouble at school? Whatever happened to the speech "Spare the Rod, and spoil the child?"
3. Now I know we really need to switch to electric cars, and other electric mobiles.
1. Imagine if Vaping was popular back in the 70s. We would be facing deadly troubles worse than cigarettes.
