The Smashing Pumpkins – Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness – 2022 Trifold VINYL UNBOXING
Andy from the FensePost Indie Music & Vinyl Blog looks at a likely unofficial 2022 reissue of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins on Red Translucent Vinyl. Released on Hut Recordings and Virgin Records America, the album was originally released in 1995. Andy does a quick unboxing video of the record, showing what it comes with, the tri-fold sleeve, and the insert. He also shares a few initial thoughts of the pressing, copies of which are still available, but steadily increasing in price.

I have the original first pressing. Not my most favorite Pumpkins album, i prefer Gish and absolutely love Pisces iscariot, which i both have as original first pressings as well. I agree though that the artwork is great.

The print quality looks fantastic, but how does it sound?

I keep missing out on this every time there's a restock it sells out instantly. Paid Room just got 60 copies in and even though it's limited to 1 per person they sold out in under 1 minute. This is the definition of Infinite Sadness.

If you want an official copy I highly recommend going to a site like deep discount or music direct and backordering it. They've been restocking them on and off but they're near impossible to get for retail without backordering. And it comes with two books of notes and photos, each record sleeve are different pictures, and it's a big boxset. Also it's 4lp which is great and limits any distortion on the inner tracks. I highly recommend getting it since I had the unofficial in another color and the official one sounds alot better. Also it's always worth getting since the demand is super high.
However this unofficial version is alot better quality than most boots are. The booklet is super nice along with the trifold.
Its so nice to have this on vinyl and finally being reissued. Back in 2010 you couldn't even find a CD anywhere where I had to get one from Brazil for like $50.

Can't think of another album that has such a unique and killer visual aspect to it. The fresco woman on the cover, the antique motif (don't know how else to describe it), outer space setting, children's book Americana, and other things really give this album such a personality. What a beautiful pressing. Seems like it was worth the wait to end up getting this issue. This might have been the album that got me to start appreciating the album as a no bullshit serious artistic medium.
