About the part where the one woman's nose shrinks, I interpret it as that's how her nose really looks, but her husbands constant mocking made her see herself with the exaggerated nose. Once she realized no one else thought that way about her, see could see herself the way others do and accept her features for how beautiful they are. 😊

The nose story probably wasn't meant to REALLY be taken literally. The woman probably had a pretty average nose, but due to others bullying her for it, she started seeing it as worse than it actually was; the bit of her nose shrinking was her gaining back confidence in her appearance. Or not. Maybe she's a witch feeding on the praise of coworkers and gained enough power to adjust her facial features.
