Poetic Wax | October 16, 2025

It was about her. So was "She's a Rainbow" and "You Cant Always Get What You Want" and others. She wrote the lyrics to "Sister Morphine." But he never credits her for anything. She had to take him to court for royalies and credit.

Thats not the story i heard. If i remember correctly, the documentary about Anita Pallenberg called Catching Fire states that it was written by Keith while she was working on the film Performance by Nicholas Roeg, which involved performing nude scenes with Mick Jagger which upset Keith greatly, resulting in him going home and writing the song.

Gram Parsons almost certainly wrote Wild Horses. There is way too much evidence of it. Mick didnt like giving up songwriting credits. Marianne wrote Sister Morphine but Mick didnt want to give her credit until she later had to sue him for the credit. Gram was a trust fund kid, didnt care about the money or credit, he just wanted to make music. Its much more likely that Gram wrote it and gave it to the Stones. I have seen his hand written and edited lyrics. He and Keef were tight at the time, and Gram was hanging out with him a lot partying, which Mick was unhappy about. Gram influenced a few country flavored songs on that album. Marianne had a tough life, I hope that she finds the peace that she couldnt find here 🎉
